Nell Siceloff Long

Nell Siceloff Long passed away peacefully on Saturday, October 30, 2021. Nell was born in High Point, North Carolina on March 18, 1928. She was the daughter of Robert Siceloff and Nell Fleming Siceloff. She was pre-deceased by her parents, her husband William H. Long and her daughter Elizabeth Bradley. Nell is survived by her son Allen Long (Marie); son-in-law Rick Bradley; five grandchildren: Owen Long, Taylor Fishel (Howell), Spencer Bradley (Devon), Ryan Bradley and Shelley Bradley; great-grandchildren Arianna Sallean and Liam Bradley; and several nieces and nephews. After graduation from the Women’s College of the University of North Carolina (now UNC Greensboro) Nell enjoyed a career as a teacher in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. Nell attended a party and met the handsome young Bill and was smitten, and so was Bill. They were married on February 4, 1951. Shortly after their marriage, Bill uprooted his bride to Tallahassee for him to pursue his dream of continuing his education at Florida State University to earn his PhD in Meteorology. Nell supported this dream which eventually lead to his joining the faculty of Florida State University. Two children completed their family and they made Tallahassee their home. Nell enjoyed every opportunity to gather with family and friends. Whether it be on the tennis court, at their beach house on Alligator Point or at any of her favorite local restaurants, or whatever party she hosted or attended, she always loved a gathering and a party. She was proud of her North Carolina roots and enjoyed visiting family and friends as often as she could. Nell was involved with many organizations including the Junior League of Tallahassee, docent for the Governor’s Mansion, Tallahassee Garden Club and was recognized as an Honorary Life Membership of Faith Presbyterian Church. Nell was so proud of her children and grandchildren and loved hearing of their adventures and celebrating their successes, their marriages and the birth of her grand and great-grandchildren. While her last several years were spent at home Nell retained her cheerful, optimistic attitude and was always eager to greet her visitors with a smile and her signature goodbye of “Thanks for coming to see me”. The family wishes to express their heart-felt appreciation to her caregivers Sunday Rodger, Linda Johnson and Brenda Johnson. Her move to Azalea Gardens was met with loving and compassionate care by a supportive group of health care providers. Her final days were supported by these caregivers and Big Bend Hospice. A celebration of her life will be held at St. Peter’s Anglican Cathedral (4784 Thomasville Road) on Thursday, November 11, 2021 at 1:00 p.m. with a reception to follow in the Parish Hall. She will later be interred with her husband at Tallahassee National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Big Bend Hospice or the Community Foundation of North Florida.
