Patrick Bacon Sampey

Our dearest Patrick Bacon Sampey, age 85, peacefully went to be with his Lord and Savior in the early morning hours of August 24, 2026. While our hearts grieve his absence, we rejoice and have peace knowing that Patrick has been welcomed into the eternal presence of Jesus, whom he faithfully served throughout his life. Patrick was born on March 22, 1941 in Tallahassee, Florida to the late Elmer and Margaret (Fisher) Sampey. At an early age, his parents both passed away and he was sent with his two brothers to a children’s home in Orlando, Florida. They were later reunited in Tallahassee with his sister at the beginning of his high school years. After graduating from Leon High School, Patrick attended Florida State University where he would graduate with an accounting degree and, most importantly, meet the love of his life, Mary Frances. On December 14, 1963, Patrick and Mary Frances were married. They immediately started their beautiful life together in Omaha, Nebraska where Patrick began his career by serving his country as a United States Air Force officer, becoming a computer expert. There they would also welcome their first son, Darryl. Patrick continued his military career in Tampa, Florida where he and Mary Frances welcomed their son Brante and daughter Brooke into their growing family. Patrick was honorably discharged from the Air Force in 1973. From 1973 to 1999, Patrick’s career took his family to Maryland and Virginia where they welcomed their youngest son Gavin. Patrick continued to serve his country as a civil servant at the Pentagon in Washington, D.C. as Chief of Program Analysis and Evaluation Division for Air Force Data Services, Chief of Systems Operations for the Department of Defense, and Chief of Contracts Management for the Department of Defense, while being awarded several distinguished medals for his work. In 1999, Patrick and Mary Frances moved back to Tallahassee, FL where he finished his accomplished career as State Purchasing Director for the Department of Management Services. While Patrick’s career was certainly impressive, it was the way he lived his daily life that was extraordinary. Patrick’s love for his wife Mary Frances was steadfast and a beautiful love story for their children and grandchildren to witness. He liked to hold her hand, kiss her cheek, help her with chores, and his “happy place” was wherever she was. He loved playing board games with his family, watching a good FSU football game, and happily played Pretty Pretty Princess with his two granddaughters. He made the best breakfast, with his pancakes always being a big hit. Patrick lit up a room with his sweet smile, joyful laughter, witty humor, and happy heart. He was a deacon in his church, handed out thousands of Bibles as a Gideon, helped strangers in need, and made sure the sanitation and yard workers always got a cold Coke on a hot day. His love for the Lord showed by the way he served and loved others. Patrick was selfless and kind, and his Christ-like spirit will be remembered forever. Throughout his life, Patrick found peace in the words of John 3:16-17, “For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him shall not perish, but have everlasting life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him.” Patrick was the beloved husband of 62 years to Mary Frances (Strong) Sampey and cherished father to Darryl (Cheryl) Sampey, Brante (Cathy) Sampey, Brooke (John) Barger, and Gavin (Sabrina) Sampey. He was adored by his grandchildren, Hannah, John, Emma, Caelin, Aedan, Orion, and Leo. His loving siblings include Clara Sue Galvin (Tim), Richard Sampey, and Al Sampey. Patrick leaves behind a legacy of love, strength, and compassion that lives on in all of us. A graveside service will be held on Friday, September 4, 2026, at 2pm at Roselawn Cemetery in Tallahassee, Florida.
