Richard Carlton Smith

Richard Carlton Smith 81, passed away on July 17, 2015. He was born and raised in Pensacola, FL graduated from Pensacola High School, University Southern Mississippi and the School of Banking at the University of Wisconsin. After graduating college Richard became assistant cashier at the Bank of Gulf Breeze, Gulf Breeze Florida and later was offered the opportunity to move to Tallahassee as Vice-President and Cashier of the newly formed Parkway National Bank. Later he was President and Chairman of the Citizens Commercial Bank. Following in the footsteps of his father and brothers he pursued a career in the Insurance Business. He established Richard Smith & Associates, Inc . in 1981 offering Benefits through the convenience of payroll deduction to Florida State and Leon County employees. He was top Salesman with the American General Life Insurance Company and the Protective Life Insurance Co. earning many rewards and trips around the world. He was a Life Member of the Million Dollar Round Table, Top of the Table, The Colonel’s Cabinet and the Honors Club, just to mention a few Very recognized awards in the insurance industry. In between the banking and Insurance Business he owned and operated a golf pro shop in Tallahassee. Golf was one of his other loves and he made many wonderful friends along the way. He was a member at various times of the Killearn, Capital City, Southwood and Havana golf clubs. He was a member and past President of the Tallahassee Lions Club achieving the Melvin Jones award, He was one of the Trustees of The Biletnikoff Award and Past President of the Tallahassee Quarterback Club and an active member of the Seminole Boosters. Richard was a very caring, sharing, giving and loving man who truly believed in God and his Country. A Country that in the past was blessed to have a Smith Boy in each branch of the service and their father in the Navy. He enjoyed traveling in his Motor Home to visit family and friends in many states and he was captain of his RV. He will be deeply missed and loved forever and as he said “I am at peace with my life”, a truly full and successful Life. He was preceded in death by his brother Milton and Sister Mary Lou. He is survived by his spouse Lois, brother Jack and sister Carolyn. Children: Bob (Rachel), Cecil (Macy), Steven (Wendy) and Julie. Many grandchildren and great grand- children, numerous nieces and nephews, sister in-laws and last but not least his much loved Cat, Queenie. We miss his arms wrapped around us. Rest in peace Honey, Queenie and I love you. He was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church. The family will receive friends on Tuesday July 28, 2015 at Immanuel Baptist Church at 10:00, service to follow at 11:00 am.
