Robert Charles Werner

Robert “Bob” Werner, 92, of Tallahassee, FL, passed away peacefully on July 29,2026. Bob Werner was born in San Antonio on September 24, 1933, to Richard and Dorothy Werner. His father was an architect, having set new academic records at the School of Architecture at Texas A&M. His mother, also a college graduate, had the long-suffering duty of raising both Bob and his little brother by herself, as their father, a regimental commander, was serving in the 36th division in Italy. While living in San Antonio, both boys attended the San Antonio Academy; at high school time, both went to the Landon School in a suburb of Washington, D.C. Bob’s father was now a general in the pentagon. A military bug must have bitten Bob somewhere along the way, as he was now a cadet at the US Military Academy at West Point. To his own amazement, he even graduated! A full military career followed: first man in his class at the Infantry School, a tour in the Counterintelligence Corps, duty in the First Cavalry Division in Korea, helping the start of the Army’s advanced marksmanship program, a paratrooper, an Army Ranger, etc. He finally got bored with the active Army’s routine, so he transferred to the Army Reserve. Where he served until, he retired from the Army altogether. As a civilian, Bob needed a real job (i.e., a paycheck). A longtime client of the leading brokerage firm in the country, Bob applied for a position with Merrill lynch. He worked at Merrill Lynch for 47 years. Starting as an account executive, he found his years of military training and self-discipline helped him climb the ladder. It wasn’t long before he became a senior account executive, then vice president, then a senior vice president. When Merril Lynch ran out of titles, he decided to just retire. Bob loved to travel the world and had a taste for adventure. He lived his life. He is survived by his loving wife of 30 years Karin; her son Gary; and grandchildren, Zoe and Raymond. He is also survived by his children, Gary, Patti and Brian; and grandchildren, Ashley, Alec, Adam, and Branden. He was preceded in death by his son David. Services will be held at Bevis Funeral Home Chapel on Friday, August 21, 2026, at 11:00 AM.
