Ron H. Drye

Ron H. Drye, age 66 entered into rest March 3, 2016 at his residence. Ron was born in Arcadia, Florida and was a longtime resident of Tallahassee. He was a retired truck driver. Ron graduated from Robinson High School, Tampa, Florida in June of 1968 and moved to Tallahassee that same year with the phone electric company he was employed. This is where he met Arlene and his story begins as a loving husband and father. He served 8 years in the Navy stationed at Jacksonville, FL and Norfolk, VA. He was an aviation electrician aboard the U.S.S. Saratoga and served two tours to the Mediterranean Sea. After his service, he ran a Radio Shack in Elizabeth City, NC for 8 years. He returned to Tallahassee with his family in 1986 where he drove as a courier dispatch agent for several years and then obtained his truck driver’s license and finally did the job he enjoyed most, driving big trucks. He was a Charter Member of the Tallahassee Harley Owners Group and served as many different officers in the club. He had just received his 25 year patch as a National HOG member. He attended all the events he could, enjoying his fellow biker friends. He also rode with the Patriot Guards and was always recognized by the huge American flag on the back of his bike. He was one of the organizers for the first Toys for Tots and many afterwards. He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank M. and Mary Jo Nelson Drye. Survivors include his wife of 46 years, Arlene Carlile Drye; son Eric Drye (Monica) of Denver, CO and daughter Ginger Drye (P.J. Siliano) of Tallahassee, FL; five grandchildren Brent Drye (Paula) of Crawfordville, FL and Ashley Drye, James Drye and Abbie Drye all of Denver and Tyler Drye-Siliano of Tallahassee; one great grandchild, Natalie Drye of Crawfordville; two brothers Frank Drye (Rhonda) Port St. Lucie, FL and John Drye Murdock, FL. The family will receive friends Saturday, March 12, 2016 from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Bevis Funeral Home. Graveside services will follow at 1:30 p.m. at Roselawn Cemetery with a get together following at a relative’s home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Tallahassee Patriot Guard c/o 9433 Rose Road, Tallahassee, FL 32311.
