Sandra Joan Kappes

Sandra “Sandy” Joan Kappes, age 88 of Tallahassee, FL passed away on February 23, 2026. Sandy was born on January 9, 1938, in Guilford, Connecticut. She graduated as salutatorian of her Guilford High School class in 1955. After graduation, she worked most of her life in the banking industry. In 1969, Sandy moved to Pompano Beach, FL with her husband and daughter, Linda. After her divorce, Sandy met her future husband. In 1988, Sandy married the love of her life, Bill Kappes. The couple moved to Tallahassee in 1996, following her daughter, son-in-law and two grandchildren. Sandy and Bill were very active at Trinity United Methodist Church for many years. In 2019, they began attending Wildwood Church and quickly became dedicated members of the congregation. Sandy enjoyed attending bible studies, packing and delivering food, and volunteering in any way she could to help others. She was strong in her faith and knew she was going to heaven. After Bill passed away, Sandy encountered health issues and moved in with Linda. Making the most of their time together, they visited family across the country, went on a cruise, and attended precepts. Staying true to her ambitious spirit, Sandy made two goals for 2025 – she was going to meet her first great-grandchild, and she was going to see snow again. She traveled to Minneapolis, MN to meet her first great-grandchild in October followed by a second visit up north at Christmas. Bringing all four generations of her family together one last time, Sandy and her family enjoyed a wonderful holiday and of course, God blessed her with snow on their last day in Minnesota. Sandy loved her grandchildren and great-grandson so much. Sandy is survived by her daughter, Linda Lieblong of Tallahassee, grandchildren, Michael Lieblong of Tallahassee and Megan (Ryan) Weisenbeck and great-grandson, Beau Kurt Weisenbeck of Minneapolis. Step-grandchildren, Christian and Carter Camandona (Boca Raton). Sandy is also survived by many other family members and very close friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, William “Bill” Kappes and son-in-law, Kurt Lieblong. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made, in honor of Sandy Kappes, to Wildwood Church, 100 Ox Bottom Rd, Tallahassee, FL 32312 or Big Bend Hospice, 1723 Mahan Center Blvd, Tallahassee, FL 32308.
