Sarah Ann (McCoy) Purvis

Sarah Ann (McCoy) Purvis (Meme) passed away, on November 8, 2024, after a long illness with Dementia, in Monticello Florida, in Tommy and Debbie’s home, surrounded by her family and loved ones. Sarah was born in Monticello, Florida on August 13, 1933. Sarah was a graduate of Leon High School in 1951, in Tallahassee Florida. She went on to Charity Hospital of Louisiana and earned her registered nurse degree in 1954. She passed the State Boards in Florida, Georgia and Louisiana, an accomplishment she was very proud of. After graduation, she traveled the world as an Airforce wife, with her first husband Mark, spreading God’s love everywhere she went. Eventually settling back home in Monticello, where she began her long time career as a Geriatric Nurse, which she retired from in 2015, at the age of 81. Meme was very passionate about Geriatric Nursing, where she loved and cared for the well-being of all her patients. Meme was a devoted wife, mother, mother-in-law, grandmother and great grandmother. There is nothing Meme loved more than her family, church and friends. Meme spent her life being a servant of God. She served many years being a Pastor’s Wife, VBS Director, WMU Director, Sunday School Teacher, Choir Member, and Camp Nurse at the Middle Florida Children’s Camp. Meme was blessed during her illness to have a wonderful caretaker, Rachel Cassidy Nesbitt, who took care of her and supported her family during the illness. Sarah was preceded in death by her Mother Blanche Clark and Father Charles Lafayette Clark, Husbands Mark Eugene McCoy and Morton Lee Purvis, Sister Alice Sellers and Brother James Clark. She is survived by her Sons Charles McCoy, Thomas Eugene McCoy (Debbie), Grandchildren Lora Leigh Burdick (Alex), Clark McCoy, Ashley Strickland, Dustin McCoy (Chelsey), Kyle McCoy (Jessica), Kristin McCoy, Great grandchildren Peyton Shealey, Kylie McCoy, Aubrie McCoy and Johnny Flowers. Sarah truly believed in missions and supported them her whole life. In lieu of flowers and in honor of Sarah’s service to the Lord, please make donations to Elizabeth Baptist Church’s Lottie Moon Offering or Annie Armstrong Offering. A visitation will be held at 10AM Thursday, November 14, 2024, with the funeral service at 11:00AM at Elizabeth Baptist Church in Monticello, Florida. The burial will immediately follow the service at Elizabeth Church Cemetery. The family will have a reception following the service in the church fellowship hall.
