Sarah "Susie" Hay Lamb

Sarah (Susie) Hay Lamb died Tuesday, February 28, 2023 in Tallahassee, Florida. She is now absent from the body and face to face with the Lord Jesus Christ. Susie was born on July 8, 1937 in Thomasville, Georgia to Edith Louise Johnson Hay and Clifford Eugene Hay, Jr. She is survived by her beloved husband of 63 years, Marion D. Lamb, Jr., sister, Eva (Bitsy) Hay Rogers, sons, Marion D. Lamb, III (Karen), Clifford M. Lamb (Deanna), James M. Lamb (Felicia) and daughter Edith Lamb Strickland (Whitney). She is also survived by her grandchildren, Haylee Lamb Hobson (Austin), Katherine Lamb (Alex Brooks), T. Whitney Strickland, III (Anna), J. Blair Strickland, A. Luke Strickland, C. McLin Lamb and J. Meigs Lamb, great grandchildren, R. Lee Hobson, Blair Hobson, many beloved nieces, nephews, cousins and numerous friends. She was predeceased by her parents and by her beloved sister, Dorothy Edith Hay Scotti (Joe). Susie attended Leon High School in Tallahassee Florida, followed by Florida State University where she graduated with honors and a degree in education. She taught first grade in Gainesville and Ft. Braden. She was deeply involved in Bible Study holding numerous classes in her home and would share her love of Jesus Christ to anyone who would listen. She was a member of Tallahassee Bible Church and was an associate member of Berachah Church, Houston Texas. After her children were grown, she returned to FSU Law School where she obtained her J.D, while simultaneously earning her Master’s degree in Urban and Regional Planning. She enjoyed practicing land-use law before retiring. In retirement, she continued to use her love of learning to research local history and genealogy. Adored by many and respected by all, Susie was defined by her faith, her family and the warmth of kindness. Although her passing comes with great sadness, it is the joy of her memory which shines as a testament to a life well lived. Graveside services will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday, March 4, 2023 at Oakland Cemetery.
