Sue Chaires Boynton

Sue Chaires Boynton passed away Thursday December 27 at her home in the presence of her family. Sue was born February 7, 1922 at the home of her grandparents Edwin and Sue Henderson of Trenton Florida to Thomas Peter Chaires and Pearl Henderson Chaires of Old Town, Florida. After attending Dixie County High school, she graduated in 1943 from Florida State College for Women. She continued her graduate work at the Richmond School of Social Work. She married William James (Bill) Boynton Jr. on February 5, 1945 after he served as an officer in the Navy during World War II and then they moved to Tallahassee. In the early fifties they purchased property from Mrs. Maclay from Maclay Gardens and started Ox Bottom farm. They stayed active in real estate and joined the Board of Directors of Killearn Properties in the early sixties. Sue helped Bill on the farm raising her family and participating in the many school and scouting activities of her children. Bill passed away in 1990. They had sons William James (Jay) Boynton III (Susan Peacock) and Ben Chaires Boynton (Anne Ruff) and a daughter Nan Boynton (deceased). Her grandchildren include William Chaires Boynton, Laura Boynton, Anna Cronmiller (Matt), Lily Kaye (Travis Mock), Adam Kaye (Lola), and William James (Jake) Boynton IV. She recently celebrated the birth of her great grand child Aliyah Sadie Mock Kaye. Also included by marriage into the family are Freddy and Susan Kaye, Sofi Nordstrom, and Marley Moynahan (Vitina). Sue was an active leader in a number of non- profit organizations which included Turn About. She was a member of Florida State University Emeritus Society and the Alpha Gamma Delta Sorority. She had special relationships with friends who called themselves "The Group" , "The Bereans", and her sunday school class "The Contemporary Issues". Sue was loved by many who sought her wisdom and council. People who helped in her final days whom she came to love are Rowena, Heather, Nadine and Brenda. She received special care from her loving grandchildren Will and Laura. She was a devoted follower of Jesus Christ who lived her faith daily and was a founding member of Killearn United Methodist Church. A memorial service celebrating her life will be held at 2:00 on January 10 at Killearn United Methodist Church with a reception following. In lieu of flowers, Sue has requested contributions be made to Madison Methodist Youth Ranch, P.O. Box 38, Pinetta, FL 32350 or Big Bend Hospice, 1723 Mahan Center Blvd Tallahassee, 32308 or a charity of your choice.
