Sybil Chaddick Newton

Sybil Chaddick Newton, 88, passed peacefully to her eternal home April 4, 2025, with family at her side. She was born on March 5, 1937, in Louisiana to the late Tillman and Jewel Chaddick. Sybil grew up in the community of Cottonwood, Louisiana.. She was the valedictorian of her high school class. She moved to Lake Charles, Louisiana, after graduation, where she met the love of her life, William “Bill” Newton. They married in March of 1959. After Bill’s discharge from the Air Force, they moved to Largo, Florida, started their family, and were blessed with four children. In 1969, a job relocation moved the family to Tallahassee, Florida, where Sybil spent the remaining 56 years of her life. Sybil was a devoted wife and homemaker while raising her children and working part time in the banking industry. She worked alongside Bill as he started his company in 1974, until they sold their business and retired in 1996. They enjoyed traveling and spending time with their family and friends. Sybil was Bill’s sole caregiver until he passed away after a lengthy illness in 2007. Together, they shared 47 years of marriage. Sybil was a woman of faith in Jesus Christ and member for many years at Temple Baptist Church in Tallahassee where she served and taught a ladies Sunday School class. For the last several years, she was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church, where she made many friends. She was active in her community and volunteered with the Tallahassee Memorial Healthcare Auxiliary, spending most of her volunteer hours at the TMH Foundation. She enjoyed working in her flower beds and was a member of the Tallahassee Garden Club. She enjoyed traveling with family and friends, sports, cooking, and entertaining, but above all else, her passion was for her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren where she was lovingly known as “Nannie.” While we mourn her passing, we also celebrate the beautiful life of a woman whose love, faith, and unwavering commitment will live on in the hearts of all who knew her. She is survived by her daughter Charlene Newton Letchworth (Jay) of Cumming, Georgia; son Willam P. “Bill” Newton (Lis) of Cartersville, Georgia; son Timothy E. Newton of Tallahassee, Florida; daughter Karen Newton Lamb (Marion) of Tallahassee, Florida; sister Glenda Chaddick Stewart of Deridder, Louisiana; brothers-in-law Lavelle “Buck” Miller of Houston Texas, Robert “Bobby” Newton of Eustis, Florida. Sybil was the proud grandmother of Pamela Letchworth Ehrenreich (Joe); Kelly Letchworth Lorentz (Dean); Laurie Newton Morris (Justin); Haylee Lamb Hobson (Austin); Meagan Newton Rankin (Myles); Katherine Lamb Brooks (Alex); Joshua Tate Newton; Madison Newton Wilcox (Griffin); William Benjamin Newton (Avery); eleven great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her beloved husband, William E. Newton, her brothers John Dae Chaddick and Edward D. Chaddick, sisters Darlyn Midkiff, and Fern Miller. The family will receive friends from 9:00 a.m. on Tuesday, April 8, 2025, at Bevis Funeral Home, with the funeral following at 10:00 a.m. A private graveside for the family will follow. Our family is grateful for the staff at the Big Bend Hospice Margaret Dozier House and the S.A.I.N.T.S. Ministry of Immanuel Baptist Church for their dedicated and loving care of our mother. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the S.A.I.N.T.S. Ministry of Immanuel Baptist Church and Big Bend Hospice.
