Sylvia Kelley Jenkins

Sylvia Kelley Jenkins, 66, of Crawfordville, FL was called home to be with her Lord on July 5, 2018. She was born July 31, 1951 in Montgomery, AL. Sylvia is survived by her husband of 45 years, Tim Jenkins, two daughters, Kelley (Ben) Moseley and Kerry (Matt) Prosser, six grandchildren that were her pride and joy, Payton, Finn, Griffin, Eastton, Gunner and Kamdyn, one brother, Quinton (Maxine) Kelley of Baker, FL, one niece, Amber Leavitt, one nephew, Brian Kelley, a special cousin, Brenda Kerlick and many more cousins. She is preceded in death by her parents, Howard and Mavis Kelley. Sylvia and Tim married in 1972 and moved to Tallahassee. They attended Seminole Baptist Church for two years, where they met lifelong friends. In 1974 they decided to move to Crawfordville to settle down and raise a family. They quickly found a church family at Crawfordville First Baptist Church where Sylvia sang in the choir, taught GAs, Sunday School Class, and VBS, chaperoned many youth trips and hosted countless pool fellowships at their home. Along with her “Girls from the Church,” Sylvia enjoyed coordinating weddings, bridal and baby showers, church fellowship gatherings and hosting luncheons for anyone in need. Sylvia and the “Girls from the Church” knew how to make everyone feel special. As longtime chair of the kitchen committee, Sylvia made sure the church had everything necessary for setting the perfect table for any event. Sylvia was a dedicated employee of the State of Florida, retiring after 40 years of service. She helped many college students get a job, working part-time, with The State as they furthered their education. She enjoyed her years with The State and all of the people she met along the way but being Sibbie was her favorite “job” of all! Sylvia became “Sibbie” when her first grandchild was born. She loved being Sibbie and spoiling her grandkids every chance she got. She always made sure her six grands got most all they wanted, even if it involved convincing T.T. (Tim the Tool Man) to build it for them. She was the one that always had a snack, drink, game or solution to every problem. Tim and Sylvia thoroughly enjoyed traveling. Their traveling consisted of many years of hauling volleyball girls in the white suburban to games in the Big Bend, camps as far as the Carolina’s and tournaments throughout the state of Florida. The white suburban was always the ride of choice because Mrs. Sylvia had it loaded down with snacks galore and capri suns as Mr. Tim would drive along. After retiring they traveled across the country visiting family and friends, antiquing and sight-seeing along the way. Sylvia especially loved the Smokey Mountains as the leaves were changing colors. She tried her luck at snow skiing, but realized she liked holding down the table in the lodge and watching as everyone eventually made it to the bottom of the slope. Sylvia and Tim’s last big adventure was a land and sea cruise of Canada and Alaska. They have some great memories of that trip with some of their closest friends. Sylvia will always be remembered as a kind-hearted, strong-willed woman that would take charge and make things happen. She will be missed by many people, young and old, but the impression she made on others will never fade. Please join Sylvia’s family in a celebration of her Homecoming. A visitation will be held Wednesday, July 11, 2018 6:00-8:00pm and services will be Thursday, July 12, 2018 10:00am at Crawfordville First Baptist Church. Burial will follow at Arran Annex Cemetery.
