Thomas John McBride

Thomas J. McBride, 83, of Tallahassee, FL, passed away peacefully on February 16, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. Born on February 20, 1941, in New York City to Thomas and Bridget McBride, Tom lived a life marked by his unwavering dedication to his family, friends, and community. Tom spent his early years in the Bronx, NY, and graduated from Bogota High School in Bogota, NJ. He proudly served in the United States Army, where he was selected to complete Officer Candidate School. Over the course of his varied and fulfilling career, Tom worked in many fields, including as a driver/dispatcher for UPS, a newspaper deliveryman for the St. Petersburg Times, and as a bank associate. He earned his MBA from the University of South Florida and later ventured into real estate development. Ultimately, Tom found his true calling with the State of Florida, where he dedicated his career until his retirement as a Tax Law Specialist with the Department of Revenue. Throughout his time with the state, Tom formed lasting relationships with colleagues who will always remember his dedication, professionalism, and sense of camaraderie. Outside of work, Tom was an avid golfer, and his passion for the sport was evident as he was rarely seen without a set of clubs in his car. Whether perfecting his swing or watching golf matches, the game brought him great joy. However, Tom’s greatest love was his family, and his role as “GP” to his grandchildren was the highlight of his life. He treasured every moment spent with them, bringing sweet treats and surprises on his trips to Virginia, cheering them on at their school events and sports games, and witnessing their growth into remarkable young adults. Tom is survived by his children, MaryAnn DeHaven of Englewood, FL, and Thomas McBride of St. Petersburg, FL; his beloved grandchildren, Sean DeHaven of Roanoke, VA, C. Ian DeHaven of Washington, DC, and Kjersten DeHaven of Englewood, FL; as well as his sisters, Mary Melvin and Anne McBride. He was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas and Bridget McBride. A Celebration Mass in honor of Tom will be held at 11:00 AM, EST, on March 29, 2025, at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Tallahassee, FL, followed by interment in the Church Columbarium. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to Big Bend Hospice in Tom’s memory.
