Vivian Louise Dickman

Vivian Louise Koontz Dickman, 83, passed away of natural causes on June 14, 2016. Preceded in death by her husband, the late Richard C. Dickman, Sr., and her eldest son, the late Richard C. Dickman, Jr., Vivian is survived by her children – Patricia “Patti” Dickman, Sheila Greene (Oran), Timothy Dickman, and Faith Dickman – and by her 6 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren, sisters Mary “Sunny” Storrar Hunt (Tom) and Sandra Storrar, brother Thomas Storrar, Jr. (Pam), sister-in-law Laurel Dickman Korba (Regis), brother-in-law Fred Dickman, and Faith’s significant other, John Kinneer. In addition, she is preceded in death by her sister JoAnn Koontz. Born in Indiana, Pennsylvania to Helen Levy Steen and James Edward Koontz, she spent her early years being raised by her grandparents, Samuel and Marian Levy and her stepfather Thomas Storrar. Vivian completed her nursing education and certification at Clearfield School of Nursing in Clearfield, PA. She worked as a registered nurse for more than 30 years, primarily in Sarasota, Florida. While furthering her education at Florida State University, she met and married her husband, Richard, to whom she was married for 44 years. Her grandchildren include the children of Oran and Sheila Greene – Matthew Greene (Kathryn), Abigail Greene, Donovan Greene (Brittany), Leah Greene LaDuke (Alexander), Quinton “Quincy” Greene, and Garrett Greene. Her great-grandchildren, Ariadne, Ridley, and Rhys, were beloved additions to her family, as well. A devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend to many, Vivian will long be remembered for her love, faith, perseverance, and compassion. Throughout her life, she strove to be close to her family and friends, all of whom loved her dearly. Their special occasions were important to her, and she was well-known for acknowledging them, sharing words of encouragement and love in times of celebration and grief through personal contact and with cards and letters. She deeply loved her husband and the family they created together, and she loved her children’s and grandchildren’s chosen partners, her grandchildren, and her great-grandchildren. She had a special gift for sensing the needs of others. As a nurse, she was particularly sensitive to her patients’ emotional and physical needs, especially in the latter part of her career as a geriatric nurse. Vivian loved music, animals, football (especially FSU’s Seminoles), crocheting, Boy and Girl Scouts of America, and playing Uno and Dominos with her family. She had a deep love for and faith in God; indeed, her faith was an integral part of her strength. A memorial service will be held at 2:00PM on Saturday, June 18, 2016 at Lafayette Presbyterian Church, 4220 Mahan Dr. in Tallahassee, Florida, where she attended church faithfully.
