William Louis Bierbaum Sr

Mr. William (Bill) Louis Bierbaum Sr. age 90 passed away on June 2, 2022 in Tallahassee, Florida. He was born in Paragould, Arkansas on February 28, 1933, the son of Louis and Clara Sheffield Bierbaum. Mr. Bierbaum was a recent resident of Tallahassee but had lived in DeFuniak Springs area for over 50 years. He was a member of the DeFuniak Springs First Baptist Church where had served as a deacon. He was a member of the Senior Adult Sunday School Class and was active on the Hospitality Committee. He was a United States Navy veteran with four years of active duty during the Korean Conflict. During that time his family moved to Ocala, Florida where he met his future wife, Jo Ann (Josie) Todd. They were married in June of 1956. He and Josie bought McLean’s Florist in DeFuniak Springs in 1966 and operated the business for 26 years. During this time Bill served as president of Gold Medal Florist Association from 1976 until 1978. He was on design panels in floral design schools in Florida, Georgia, Alabama, and North Carolina at various times. He also served as president of the Walton County Chamber of Commerce from 1973 until 1974. They sold the florist in 1992 and after retiring Bill was able to take up golfing. It became one of his favorite pastimes. Family was of great importance to him. His son Bill Jr. and daughter-in-law Joyce Carbonell were very dear to him as well as his grandchildren, Connie Jo Carbonell-Bierbaum, Joelle Carbonell-Bierbaum and William Todd Bierbaum and his wife Amanda. Bill is preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Jo Ann Bierbaum and his son, Bill Jr. and his wife Joyce Carbonell of Tallahassee, Florida. The family would appreciate that in lieu of flowers donations be made to Big Bend Hospice (https://bigbendhospice.org/ ) or the Tallahassee Police Department’s Chaplain Program. The family will receive friends from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM, Saturday, June 10, 2023 at Bevis Funeral Home Chapel, the service will follow at 11:00 AM.
