Betty Lou Peters Saunders

Betty Lou Peters Saunders, 82, peacefully went home to be with her Lord, surrounded by her loving family, on March 5, 2017. Born on July 25, 1934 in Macon, Georgia, she was raised in Milledgeville and attended Peabody Elementary and High School. In 1950, she met and married the love of her life, Chuck Saunders, who was attending Georgia Military College. After marriage, they moved to Florida and started their family and embarked on her most rewarding profession of being a wonderful wife and mother. Betty lived in several major Florida cities, moving to Tallahassee in 1965. In 1971, she began working outside of the home at Gayfers. After 28 years, she retired and was well remembered as the Bridal Registrar in the China and Gifts department. Betty was a member of North Florida Baptist Church where she was loved and supported for many years by her church family. She devoted herself to creating a gracious home rich in love. She enjoyed spending time with family and friends and everywhere she went had a wonderful smile that would light up a room. She was a Girl Scout leader for several years, a church youth leader, and a proud Leon High School band parent. She was also a member of the United Daughters of the Confederacy and the Daughters of the American Revolution. She was predeceased by her parents James Monroe Peters and Dimples Wilora Peters, her brothers James “Buddy” Garrard Peters, Benjamin Adams Peters, sister Dorothy Ann Peters, and her husband of almost 60 years, Charles Wesley “Chuck” Saunders. She is survived by her three daughters, Sharon Gail Saunders, Melanie Collene Saunders (Bill Kimberl IV), and Lora Gay Saunders; two grandsons, Charles Logan Saunders and Wesley Kimberl Saunders, and two grand dogs, Luke and Lacey, all of Tallahassee; one nephew James “Garrard” Peters (Sheila) and one great niece Mariah Pritchard (Danny) and a host of loving family and lifelong friends. Special thanks to the staff of Big Bend Hospice and mostly for the special care given by Catherine White and Kierra Hudson with Heavenly Helpers Senior Care for their love and attention for our sweet Momma and Nana. Family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 PM on Wednesday, March 8, 2017 at Bevis Funeral Home, 2710 N. Monroe St., Tallahassee, FL 32303. The funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, March 9, 2017 at North Florida Baptist Church. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting memorial donations be made to Big Bend Hospice Foundation, 1723 Mahan Center Blvd., #1, Tallahassee, FL 32308. Rocky Bevis and Kelly Barber of Bevis Funeral Home (850-385-2193, www.bevisfh.com) are assisting the Saunders family with their arrangements.
