Cdr. Gilbert A. Boggs, USN (Ret.) Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Cdr. Gilbert A. Boggs, USN (Ret.), 93, of Tallahassee, FL went home to be with his Lord early Sunday morning May 29, 2022 in the comfort of his home. His son & his caregiver were by his side. Gil was born & raised in Maine. After high school, he enlisted in the United States Navy and began his career as a U.S. Naval Aviator. He had a passion for flying. He soon met and married Rhoda “Lee” Uptain, the love of his life. They had 3 children and moved often living the military life. After serving 27 years in the Navy, Gil and his family settled in Tallahassee, Florida. In retirement, he started his own business tuning & repairing pianos. He and Lee were very active in the community and church. He loved working with his hands building model planes, birdhouses or working alongside his church friends on large projects like Noah’s Ark. He was a wonderful husband and father, very patient and devoted. His wit, gift of design, and many other talents, along with his servant’s heart will be greatly missed. Those left to cherish his memory are his 3 children Rebecca Stark & husband Fred of Sulphur, LA, Bonita Boggs of Pensacola, FL and Andy Boggs of Tallahassee, FL; his 4 grandchildren Tim Stark (Nancy), Alison Potter (Mark), Joel Stark, and Sarah Boggs; and 5 great-grandchildren Olivia and Juliana Potter; Logan, Emalise and Eleanor Stark. He is survived by his sister Janie McGuigan, sister-in-law Mary Jane Boggs, and brother-in-law Edgar T. Uptain, Jr. (Paulette). He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 57 years, Rhoda “Lee” Boggs, his parents Edwin & Olive Boggs, brother Edwin K Boggs, Jr., sister Virginia “Tete” Donovan, and Lee’s parents, Cdr. & Mrs. Edgar T Uptain, Sr. Funeral services for Gil will be held at Barrancas National Cemetery NAS, Pensacola, Florida on Tuesday June 14, 2022 at 11:00am with full military honors. A memorial service will be announced at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a church or charity of your choice. Gil’s family would like to extend heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Patricia Hogan, Big Bend Hospice, and Shirley, his caregiver who often referred to him as her “sidekick”.
