Donna Anderson Cassedy, age 92, passed away peacefully in the early morning hours of Wednesday, June 29, 2022. Donna was born on May 9, 1930 in Jamestown, New York. She was the daughter of Stanley William Anderson and Alice Cederquist Anderson and was predeceased by her cherished sister Jacquelyn Atwater. Donna grew up with her sister Jacquelyn Anderson in Jamestown, New York. She attended college at William Smith College in Geneva, New York, graduating Magna Cum Laude and Phi Beta Kappa with a degree in education in May 1952. Six weeks later on July 5,1952 at the Bethel Lutheran Church in Jamestown, New York, she married her college sweetheart and recent Marine Lieutenant, Marshall Royal Cassedy, and enjoyed a wonderful marriage of 59 years. Interestingly, several of their groomsmen showed up at their honeymoon spot, the Chatham Bars Inn on Cape Cod. Much fun and adventure awaited. Donna taught school in the Durham County School system in order to assist Marshall with his Duke law degree. Her marriage to Marshall was central to her life until his passing in 2011. Donna truly enjoyed her family, friends, church and community. She enjoyed many social events, entertaining, community service, and international travel. Donna is survived by her four children, Marshall R. Cassedy, Jr. (Susan) of Tallahassee, Thomas Anderson Cassedy (Denise) of Tampa, Florida, Cricket Cassedy O’Neill (John) of Seattle, Washington and Melissa Cassedy Wesel (Jerry) of Concord, Massachusetts and her 11 grandchildren Case Cassedy (Ally), Richard Cassedy (Lauren), Pierce Cassedy, Cameron Cassedy (Madeleine), Katie Cassedy, Carolina Cassedy, Shane O’Neill, Cassedy O’Neill, Blake Wesel, Graham Wesel and Hudson Wesel. Her family will always cherish the loving role she played in the adventures of an always moving family. Donna wore many hats as President of League of Women Voters, Junior League member, Grace Mission volunteer, wedding party planner for all neighborhood betrothed, and various PTA roles for the kids. Her work interests were teaching school and working for the Florida Legislature. Her love of church led her to a very active role on the Alter Guild of Advent Church. She and Marshall saw the world primarily through the events tied to Marshall’s position at the Florida Bar. Trips to Japan, Asia, Switzerland, London, and Scandinavia were her favorites. With the house always full of friends and family, she was ready to entertain and cook at a moment’s notice. Life went quickly. Her lively wit and heartwarming friendliness led to many local cherished dear long term friends. She would thank all these buddies now if possible. In her last two years, she built a cadre of great bridge, happy hour, and movie night new friends at Red Hills Retirement Center. Her life was lived fully and a hearty thanks goes out to the doctors, nurses, caretakers and assistants at TMH, Capital Regional, Hospice, and Red Hills Village who have assisted her. A graveside service will be held at Roselawn Cemetery of Tallahassee on Friday, July 29, 2022 at 1:30 p.m. with a reception to immediately follow in the reception hall at the Episcopal Church of the Advent, 815 Piedmont Road, Tallahassee, FL 32312. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Church of the Advent, 815 Piedmont Road, Tallahassee, Florida 32312 or the Alzheimer’s Project, 301 Tharpe Street, Tallahassee, Florida 32303.
