December 11, 1943 - November 13, 2021
Emma Nell Westberry Hopkins joined the angels in heaven on November 13, 2021. Born in Hoboken, Georgia on December 11, 1943 to James and Mary Westberry, she was raised with her three brothers in Hialeah, Florida. It was in Hialeah where she would meet her beloved husband and best friend in life, Phillip Hopkins. Emma and Phillip were married on November 27, 1965. Leaving Hialeah in 1976, they established their lasting roots in Tallahassee, FL in the Fort Braden community. Emma was a true matriarch, and she cherished her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. A devoted professional working at Fort Braden for more than 20 years, she loved interacting with the students and developed lifelong friendships with colleagues that stand to this day. Emma was known for her kindness and always lending a hand to both friends and strangers alike, she was a genuine, caring person. Blessed to share so many good memories with family and friends, she will be missed by all that were fortunate to know her. She was preceded in death by her parents James and Mary Westberry, and brother, James Riley Westberry. She is survived by her husband Phillip Hopkins, her two sons and their wives Shane Hopkins (Lisa) and Keith Hopkins (Danielle). She was the best mom two sons could ask for, and she enjoyed fantastic loving relationships with her daughters-in-law. She is also survived by her three amazing grandchildren who were the light of her life, Jordan Hopkins (Stephanie) of Tallahassee, Florida, Dr. Lauren Hopkins of Fairhope, Alabama and Abbey Ratcliff (Josh) of Crawfordville, Florida. She was also blessed to spend time with her darling great grandchildren Hayden Hopkins (Jordan & Stephanie) and Claire Ratcliff (Josh & Abbey). She is also survived by brothers Carl Westberry (Sarah) of Sunrise, Florida and Bill Westberry (Jean) of Thomaston, Georgia. Her husband, along with her immediate family, would like to thank all for their friendship and kindness not only during this time, but throughout Emma’s life. It has been truly special and appreciated. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you make a donation to the cause of your choice or provide a random act of kindness to another. Phillip and family will receive visitors on Thursday, November 18, 2021 between 4:00 and 6:00 pm at Bevis Funeral Home at 200 John Knox Road, Tallahassee, Florida 32303. Kelly Barber of Bevis Funeral Home (850-385-2193 or www.bevisfh.com) is assisting the Hopkins family with their arrangements.
