Please continue to review website for complete obituary information.City Commissioner and Carrabelle native Franklin J. “Frank” Mathes, Sr. passed away on June 7, 2022 at the age of 87. He was born on February 11, 1935 to parents Will and Jessie Chason Mathes. Although Frank’s formal education only reached middle school, his wit and talents were immeasurable. He was an accomplished mechanic, U.S. Army veteran, and sitting Carrabelle City Commissioner for over 20 years. When Frank wasn’t using his various skillsets or helping improve the community that he loved, you could almost always find him fishing. He also enjoyed dove hunting – especially with his brother. Frank also cherished his wife, Dionne Vavithes Mathes, until her passing in 2007. Survivors include children Shirley Ham, Franklin “Buddy” Mathes, Jr. (Lee) and Kathy Barber; siblings Harold Mathes and Riley Mathes; grandchildren Kimberly Ham, Amanda Ham, Haley Mathes and Connor Mathes; 5 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren. Frank will also be missed by a host of extended family members, friends, and colleagues. Frank is now reunited with his parents, his wife, and his brothers: William “Curly” Mathes, Lonnie Mathes, Willie “Jug” Mathes, Jr. as well as his dear son in-law, Joe Ham, who all preceded him. No public service will be held. Frank will later be rejoined with his favorite fishing spot. Breanna Green of Bevis Funeral Home is assisting the family with their arrangements.
