Glenn James Skaarhaug Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Glenn James Skaarhaug died January 26, 2021, at his home in Tallahassee, Florida. The family will receive friends from 6:00PM until 9:00PM on Thursday March 25th at Bevis Funeral Home located at 200 John Knox Road. On Friday March 26, 2021, at 11:00 AM. Mr. Skaarhaug will be escorted to the Tallahassee National Cemetery for burial located at 5015 Apalachee Parkway, Tallahassee, Florida. Glenn was born on May 25, 1952 in Evanston, Illinois to Norris and Evelyn. He joined the United States Coast Guard August 7, 1970 and served as a Deck Seaman on an icebreaker, then was accepted to Aviation Machinist’s Mate School to become a helicopter mechanic. Mr. Skaarhaug then worked with the Icebreaker Support Section based at Mobile, Alabama and later transferred and served as a Search & Rescue helicopter crewman in Los Angeles, CA. Mr. Skaarhaug received a Good Conduct Medal, Antarctic Service Medal and National Defense Service Medal while serving with the U.S. Coast Guard. He was honorably discharged on November 11th, 1974. Mr. Skaarhaug attended Florida State University from 1975 through 1983 and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in criminology. While attending FSU, he attended Pat Thomas Law Enforcement Academy, to receive his law enforcement certification, and graduated in 1982. He then went to Polk County Community College and received his certification to become an EMT and worked with the Tallahassee Memorial Hospital Emergency Medical Service from September 1975 until 1988. Mr. Skaarhaug worked for the Leon County Sherriff’s Office from November 1982 to January 1988 in an Auxiliary position, serving as a Reserve Lieutenant working with the Uniform Patrol and the Air Support Division. He was later hired by the Tallahassee Police Department serving as a Police Officer from January 1988 through April 2009 when he retired. We ask anyone who knew Glenn Skaarhaug or served with him to please honor his passing by attending the visitation or burial service.
