James William Gentry

September 12, 1939 - December 21, 2021

James W. Gentry, passed away peacefully on December 21, 2021 at the age of 82 in Tallahassee with his family by his side. After graduating from Muncie Central High School in Muncie, Indiana, Jim joined the United States Air Force where he served from 1959 to 1967. While stationed in Scotland, Jim met and married his wife Cathy. After the service, Jim worked and retired from National Cash Register. He relocated to Birmingham, Alabama where he went back to work and retired for a second time from Health South. In 2018, Jim relocated back to Tallahassee, Florida to be closer to his family. Jim enjoyed all sports and was an avid fan of Florida State University or any sport his grandsons were playing. On any nice day, you could find him on the golf course. Jim is survived by his only daughter, Sharla Deanda ( husband Brad deceased); grandsons Bradley and Brenden; his greatest supporter his ex-wife, Cathy. Also surviving are his brothers Robert (wife Fran) of Pace, Florida, John (wife Teri) of Mt. Juliet, Tennessee; sister Dorothy (husband Dick) of Grass Valley, California and many nieces, nephews. Preceding Him in death were his parents, James and Helen Gentry; brothers Mike, Gene and Tom; sisters Pat Campbell and Barbara Turner. Graveside services will be held Wednesday, January 19, 2022 at Tallahassee National Cemetery, 5015 Apalachee Parkway, Tallahassee, Florida.
