    James Edward Young

    July 20, 1958 - January 16, 2022

    James Edward (Jones) Young was born July 20, 1958, in Brooks County, Georgia to parents Clyde Leroy Jackson and Laura Bell Jones Young. He was raised by his maternal grandparents Ivy and Lola Mae Jones. He was one of six children. James went home with God January 16, 2022. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister, Sandra Lewis, brother, Alphonso Lewis, granddaughter Kennedie Thomas, grandson Eric Herring, aunt Ollie Mae Fogle and favorite cousin Mae Ivy. He was the father of five children. He met and married his beloved wife of 21 years, Sylvia Evette Drummer October 14, 2000, creating their blended family with a total of nine children. James was educated in the public schools in Thomasville, served in the US Army for 3 years and became a certified nursing assist in 1980. James worked all over South Georgia and North Florida until 2011 when he lost his vision to glaucoma. He was a faithful member of Every Nation Tallahassee Church for many years, where he severed as an elder, usher, life group leader, and financially assisted many mission trips both home and abroad. He was a very active member of the Tallahassee Chapter of The National Federation of the Blind having served on its board for over ten years. He was known for his generously wherever he went. James leaves to cherish his memory his wife, Sylvia Young of Tallahassee, FL, five sons: Fredderick (Latonya) Jones of Douglasville, GA, Major Samuel (Kisha) Phillips, USMC of Albany, GA, FL, Scott (Michelle) Phillips of Tallahassee, FL, Stephen (Chelsea) Phillips of Fort Wayne, IN, and Phillip Mickens of Thomasville, GA. Six daughters: Nanette (Kindall) Brown of Thomasville, GA, Tameka Young of Atlanta, GA, Kakeria (Dwayne) Thomas and Kelly (Jeremey) Searcey of Thomasville, GA, Samantha Phillips of Warren Robins, GA and Rosalind Hayward of Thomasville, GA, two sisters Mamie Young of Thomasville, GA and Debbie Ivy of Atlanta, GA; three sister-in-laws Saundra Drummer of Pensacola, FL, Charlene Holland Reynolds and Gwendolyn Holland of Thomasville, GA; one brother Albert (Katrina) Lewis of Ochlocknee, GA; and one brother-in-law Rodney (Misao) Drummer of Honolulu, HI. Sixteen grands: Jay’Qwece, Alexia, Tinesha, Kwajalien, Jediyah, Deonna, Tayquinett, Sniah, Rain, Skyler, Tristan, Devon, Terrance, Jr, Jacob, Jeremy, and Layla; and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends. The Celebration of his Life will be held January 29, 2022 at 10 am at Every Nation Tallahassee Church, 2555 North Monroe St, Tallahassee, FL 32303. In leu of flowers send donations to National Federation of the Blind Tallahassee, c/o Donald Christie, President, 4578 Rice Dr. Tallahassee, FL 32305.
