Kathryn Henrietta (“Henny”) Shasteen died September 16, 2021, at her home in Tallahassee, Florida surrounded by her family. Born June 13, 1942, in Nashville, Tennessee, she was the daughter of the late Kathryn Jameson Wilson and Ernest Theodore Wilson. She is survived by her husband of almost 53 years, William Johnson Shasteen; daughters, Kathryn (“Katie”) Proctor (Collins) of Tallahassee, Susan Hunter (Branden) of Savannah, Georgia and Mary (“Molly”) Terrell (Mark) of Nashville; grandchildren, Leroy Collins Proctor Jr., Richmond Clay Proctor, William Jameson Proctor, William Grant Hunter, Kathryn Elizabeth Hunter and Henrietta Lucile Terrell; and sister Linda MacIlwaine (Bill) of Charlottesville, Virginia. Henny grew up in Nashville and graduated from Hillsboro High School. She attended Sullins College and graduated from the University of Kentucky in 1964 with a BA in English. She was a member of the Tri Delta sorority. After college, she worked for Proctor & Gamble and had fond memories of traveling across the country doing market research. Upon returning to Nashville, she worked for the Methodist Publishing House. In 1968, she married Dr. Bill Shasteen at West End United Methodist Church. They moved to Huntsville, Alabama in 1975, where they raised their three daughters and remained there until retiring to Clifftops in Monteagle, Tennessee. She worked part time for a travel agency and the Art League and did volunteer work for the Huntsville Symphony Orchestra Guild and the Women’s Guild of the Huntsville Museum of Art. She was a member of The Carillon Club and the Madison County Medical Auxiliary. She enjoyed traveling, playing bridge, her garden club, the MAM club, and Bookmarks book club. She was a wonderful cook and shared a love of all animals and nature with her husband and family. Henny will be remembered as a wonderful wife, loving mother, doting grandmother and devoted sister and friend. To know her was to love her and she will be missed dearly. A very special thanks to Henny’s wonderful caregiver and our dear friend, Laurie Haston, and to her physicians Dr. John Sergent of Nashville and Dr. Michael Forsthoefel of Tallahassee. A graveside service will be held at the University Cemetery in Sewanee, Tennessee on Saturday, October 2, 2021 at 1:30 pm. The family will receive guests following the service at McGriff Alumni House in Sewanee, Tennessee. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to South Cumberland Community Fund, P.O. Box 1301, Monteagle, TN 37356; Greater Huntsville Humane Society, 2812 Johnson Rd SW B., Huntsville, AL 35805 and Big Bend Hospice, 1723 Mahan Center Blvd., Tallahassee, FL 32308.
