Dr. Lynette Edmonds Johnson

Lynette Edmonds Johnson, age 79, passed away on Wednesday morning, January 26, 2022. Lynette was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Dr. Joseph Andrew Johnson III; mother of Christopher (Ivy) Johnson, Bradley (Sandra) Johnson, Kyla, and Tayari (Sean) Allardice; sister of Karen (AB) Spellman, Cheryl (Thomas) Edmonds, Toni (Donald) Walker. Lynette was “Nana” to 9 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. Lynette was born in San Antonio, TX to the late Rev. Dr. Edwin and Maye Edmonds. She graduated from Southern Connecticut State College with a B.A. in Education and received an M.A. in Psychology from Rutgers University. She went on to receive an M.A and Ed.D in Early Childhood Development from Teachers College, Columbia University. She held research positions at The City College of New York and was the Deputy Director of the Center for Plasma Science and Technology (CePaST) at Florida A&M University until she retired. Lynette was a devoted wife to her husband, Joseph, of 56 years until his death in 2017. They enjoyed their worldwide travels together to France, England, Italy, Ghana, Benin, Brazil, and a 3-week cross country trip from New Jersey to California and back, in a Plymouth van, with 4 children in the summer of 1977. She loved going to the movies, practicing Yoga, and was an avid gardener. Her favorite passion and hobby was quilting, having made over 100 quilts for family and friends from her extensive and well stocked home studio. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great grandson, especially when given the chance to introduce them to her love of quilting. As the oldest of four sisters, Lynette lived her life devoted to the sisterhood, helping to empower women of all generations. She was an original “Queen” and an inspiration to all she met, both in her professional and personal life. A memorial service will be held at 5:00 pm on Sunday, February 20, 2022 at the Bevis Funeral Home, 200 John Knox Road, in Tallahassee, FL, with a reception immediately following.
