Mary Ann Braswell Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Mary Ann Braswell passed away on May 22, 2022, at the age of 86. She was born January 14, 1936, in Nashville, Tennessee to Thomas and Martha Bransford. After graduating from Gainesville High School, she earned a Bachelor’s Degree of elementary education and a Master’s Degree in English from the University of Florida. She taught elementary school for nine years and later taught Introduction to Fiction and Business Writing at Tallahassee Community College. She retired from Florida State University’s Center for Professional Development. On December 28, 1962, she married Ron Braswell. They were happily married for over 59 years, living in Winter Park, Florida (2 years); Merritt Island, Florida (4 years); and Tallahassee, Florida for 54 years. They have been active residents of Westminster Oaks since 2006. Her favorite pastime was traveling throughout Europe, Australia, New Zealand, and the United States. She visited all the states except five. She especially enjoyed going to her beach house on St. George Island. Social activities included various dinner groups, bridge groups, and book clubs. She was an avid FSU sports fan enjoying basketball the most. Mary Ann was a member of St. Paul’s Methodist Church and the Burleigh Law Sunday School Class and attended Trinity United Methodist Church. She was a member of The Children’s Home Society, P.E.O., Zeta Tau Alpha sorority, FSU Presidents Home, and the Governor’s Mansion Docents. Mary Ann is survived by her loving husband Ron, son Scott (wife Terri) of Apopka, Florida; daughter Suzanne Varick of Tallahassee, Florida; and grandson Matthew Braswell of Apopka, Florida. She was preceded in death by her granddaughter Heather Braswell and son-in-law Ben Varick. A service will be held at Bevis Funeral Home located at 200 John Knox Rd. Tallahassee, Florida on Friday, June 17, 2022, at 11:00 am.
