Nancy Ann Ford Foster
June 12, 1936 - April 13, 2022
Nancy Foster died peacefully at her home on Wednesday, April 13, 2022 in Tallahassee, FL. Nancy was born in Texas to Robert Darby and Helen Alberta Symons Ford on June 12, 1936. She met the love of her life, Garrett Richard Foster, at Austin High School. They attended Texas Technical College where Nancy graduated in three years, later earning a Masters Degree from Florida State University. The couple married at St. Pius Catholic Church. They then traveled to Berkeley, California where Gary received his Bachelor’s Degree at the University of California, Berkeley and Nancy began an illustrious career in elementary education. When Gary graduated, they moved to Austin where he obtained his Ph. D. at the University of Texas. The young couple then moved to Plantation, FL, where Gary evaluated Nova Schools with a Ford Foundation Grant. Nancy continued teaching through the Title I Program, helping hundreds of children learn the joy of reading. Family: First born was Brant, followed by Bruce, Tim and, the caboose, Matt. A natural mother (and later grandmother), Nancy nurtured her boys - providing a variety of experiences to expand their wonderful world. Weekends were spent at swim meets with all the family. She continued to teach until her retirement from Florida State University School in 1998. After retirement Nancy and Gary traveled the world but especially loved Franklin Roosevelt State Park. She loved spending time with her beloved grand-children and spent many happy hours reading in their classrooms (known there as “Fancy Nancy”). Nancy was a friend to all - loving all creatures and her beautiful flowers. She was always the first at a friend’s door, basket of food in hand, when any need arose. She saw the best in people and made a special point to compliment everyone. Nancy truly loved giving and had a servants heart. Survivors include Brant Foster, Bruce (Lisa) Foster, Tim Foster and Matt (Linzy) Foster and grandchildren Daniel, Alexa and Morgan Foster, Kayla (Caleb) Johnson and Zach Foster, Hayden and Banks Foster and great-granddaughter Hadley Johnson. The family is grateful to the loving and dedicated team of caregivers and Big Bend Hospice who were with Nancy during the last few months. The family will hold a private burial at Roselawn Cemetery. A celebration of Nancy’s life will be Friday, April 22, from 4 to 6 p.m., in the parlor at Trinity United Methodist Church, Tallahassee, FL. In lieu of flowers the family requests donation to Big Bend Hospice. Todd Wahlquist with Bevis Funeral Home (850-385-2193, www.bevisfh.com) is assisting the Foster family with their arrangements.
