Rev. Dr. Preston Charles "Chuck" Hughes

"Reverend Dr. Preston Charles "Chuck" Hughes passed into his eternal glory at his home on January 16, 2022 at the age of 91. He was born December 28, 1930 to Rev. William Preston and Vera Mae (Clark) Hughes in Ashford, Alabama. At the age of 18 he joined the United States Navy where he trained and worked as a dental technician. In 1952, he met and married his wife of 69 years Wilma Julene Funk in Hilo, Hawaii and they raised four children together. An ordained Assemblies of God minister, he was educated at Southeastern University, and got his doctorate at Auburn University. In addition to multiple pastorates across the southeastern United States and Hawaii, he was the President of Palmer College, and vice-president at Trident Technical College in Charleston, SC. Just prior to retirement, he served 6 years with great distinction as the secretary-treasurer of the West Florida District Assemblies of God. Dr. Hughes was a lover of golf, Auburn, Florida State, and looking good. He is survived by his wife Wilma, and children Charles, Joye, Craig, and Jill. As well as seven grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, and many beloved nieces and nephews. Services will be held Friday, Jan 21 at 11:00 at Freedom Assembly, Tallahassee, Florida. Interment Saturday, Jan 22 at 11:00 CST at Dothan City Cemetery, Dothan, Alabama. In lieu of flowers, the family requests making memorial donations to Assembly of God World Missions as spreading the Good News of Jesus Christ was of utmost importance to Chuck.
