Sarah Brinkhoff Gilroy
September 5, 1961 - March 19, 2022
Sarah Brinkhoff Gilroy was born September 5, 1961 in St. Augustine, Florida to Fred and Marianne Brinkhoff. Sarah died at home in Tallahassee on March 19, 2022, with her family at her side. Sarah personified true courage and grace over her five-year journey living with ovarian cancer. Sarah grew up on Anastasia Island, within the shadow of the St. Augustine lighthouse, and attended St. Joseph Academy all twelve years of school. Sarah left her hometown in 1981 to establish a stellar court reporting career in Tallahassee, achieving every certification available, including real-time reporting. She was a consummate professional and a welcome sight in deposition and courtrooms over almost 40 years of practice, including the day she caught the eye of the young lawyer who would become her husband, companion, and life partner for the next 35 years. Sarah was predeceased by her mother, Marianne; she is survived by her husband, John; son Adam (Rebecca) of Austin, TX, daughter Amelia “Andie” Levings (Christian) of Tallahassee; father, Fred; sisters Monica Jones and Lisa Sanders; and a great extended family in St. Augustine and the Gainesville area, all of whom love her dearly and provided her with tremendous support over the course of her treatment for OC. Sarah enjoyed gardening, sports, local theatre, spending time outdoors, and being at the beach or out on the water. She also loved traveling with John, whether enjoying art and theatre in New York City, hiking the mountains of North Carolina, or exploring the culture and cuisine of Venice, Seville, Lisbon, Nazare, and Istanbul. She also truly valued her mission trip to Guatemala to provide labor for Porch de Salomon, a local ministry working to build homes and provide basic services to those in need in that country. In lieu of flowers, we would ask that contributions be made to Porch de Salomon – send checks to PO Box 10509, Tallahassee FL 32302-2509; online payments can be made at http://porchdesalomon.org/donate/ . A memorial service will be held at Bevis Funeral Home on John Knox Road on Friday, April 8 at 1pm. We will also gather for food, drink, and celebration of Sarah’s life at Feather Oaks, 6500 Miccosukee Road from 4 to 8 pm that same evening – family friendly and very casual. Kelly Barber of Bevis Funeral Home (850-385-2193 or www.bevisfh.com) is assisting the Gilroy family with their arrangements.
