Vernice Nichols McDonald

September 20, 1924 - February 22, 2021

Vernice Nichols McDonald, 96, passed away on Monday, February 22, 2021, in Tallahassee, Florida. She was predeceased by her husband, George McDonald, and their beloved daughter, Dawn McDonald Cooper. Vernice attended Stetson University and graduated in 1946 with a degree in Business Administration. After graduation, she began working at the First Baptist Church of Panama City. It was there that she met George; they married in 1950 and moved to Tallahassee in 1957. Vernice worked at Tallahassee Memorial Hospital and retired as Vice President of Personnel Relations. She had been a longtime member of the Woman's Club of Tallahassee, Springtime Tallahassee, and Tallahassee Garden Club. She was an active member of the First Baptist Church of Tallahassee for over 50 years and a faithful member of her Sunday School's Friendship Bible Class, preparing the class yearbook; and entertaining her class & friends in her home. Vernice was happiest doing something for someone else. She is survived by nieces and nephews: Janet McCall Gonzales, Panama City, FL; Lana Hawhee Shuck, Terre Haute, IN; Jill Lear Williams, Austin, TX; Randy McCall, Hernando, MS; Phil Hawhee, Indian Rocks Bch., FL; and Dick Lear, Tucson, AZ; and numerous grand nieces and nephews. Her devoted family and many Tallahassee friends brought her much joy. There will be a viewing from 11 a.m. till noon on Friday, February 26, 2021, at Bevis Funeral Home and a graveside service at 2 p.m. at Roselawn Cemetery.
