Alan Douglas Shelby

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the unexpected passing of Alan Douglas Shelby on August 24, 2025, a devoted father, passionate outdoorsman, and beloved leader, who left this world too soon. He was 56 years old. Alan was a proud father to two beautiful daughters, Sarah and Addison, whose lives he cherished above all else. His love for them was boundless, and his greatest joy came from watching them grow, thrive, and share in his deep appreciation for nature and life’s simple pleasures. Alan shared a close bond with his father, and sister, relationships rooted in mutual respect, laughter, and unwavering support. Their connection was a cornerstone of his life, and he carried their love with him through every chapter. A lifelong hunter, fisherman, and outdoorsman, Alan found peace and purpose in the wild places of Florida and beyond. Whether casting a line at sunrise or tracking through pine forests, he carried a reverence for the land that shaped his character and career. A native of Tallahassee, FL and a graduate of Florida State University, Alan served with distinction as Executive Vice-President of the Florida Forestry Association, a role he embraced with passion and pride. His leadership was marked by integrity, vision, and a genuine love for the forestry community. Through his work, Alan forged countless friendships-many of which blossomed into lifelong bonds. His fun-loving spirit, quick wit, and generous heart made him a treasured companion and mentor to many. In his later years, Alan found love and companionship with Ann Palmer, with whom he was joyfully planning a future. Their relationship was filled with hope, laughter, and shared dreams—an enduring testament to the power of love at every stage of life. Above all, Alan will be remembered not only for what he accomplished, but for how he lived—with authenticity, kindness, and a deep commitment to those he held dear. Alan’s memory will live on in the forests he helped protect, the friendships he nurtured, and the family he loved so well. He will be deeply missed. Alan is survived by his daughters Sarah Shelby and Addison Shelby, his father Douglas Shelby, his sister Selina Shelby Hough (James), his nephews Andy (Loren), Carson and Dakota Hough, aunts and uncles Jerry Shelby (Sue), Charles Holloway and Faye Holloway Alcorn (Robert) and many other family members and close friends. He is pre-deceased by his mother Gail Holloway Shelby, his paternal grandparents Buford and Orene Shelby, and maternal grandparents Lucille Holloway Shotts, Cecil Holloway and Morris Shotts. Visitation will be held Tuesday, September 2, 2025 at 10:00am in the sanctuary of Tallahassee Heights Methodist Church, 3004 Mahan Drive, Tallahassee, FL. Service will be at 11:00am followed by reception in the Fellowship Hall.
