Aleathea "Sister" Baxley Davis

Aleathea “Sister” Baxley Davis, 87, went to her heavenly home May 8, 2026, surrounded by children. She was born on January 13, 1939, in Blakley, Georgia to Dr. Harry and Aleathea Baxley. The family soon moved to Donalsonville, Georgia when her father bought the local hospital. Aleathea cherished the lifelong bond with her siblings: Harriet Nolan (deceased), Jimmy Baxley (deceased), and Frances Kilpatrick. She attended Brenau University in Gainesville, Georgia before returning to Donalsonville to be the caretaker for her mother. She married David Davis in 1962. They made Tallahassee their home in 1979. He preceded her in death in August of 2016 at the age of 80. Aleathea loved her family more than anything else on earth. Her pride and joy were her children Cindy (Paul), David, Jr., and Harry, her grandchildren Sarah Sullivan Mathis (Chris), Matthew Sullivan, Peyton Davis, Colin Davis, Katie Davis, and her great grandchildren, Margaret and Catherine Mathis. She equally loved her Baxley cousins, nieces and nephews. Aleathea expressed her love through cooking for family and friends. Known for her famous fruitcakes, chicken pot pie, chicken tetrazzini, lemon bars and hummingbird cake, she believed no one should ever leave the home hungry. She loved her daily trips to Publix to visit with friends in the aisles. Aleathea loved to travel. Whether it was camping trips, road trips, (especially to Disney World) or European travel, she always had a bag packed ready to go. Affectionally known as Sister and Mimi, she lived her life with humility, always putting family and friends before herself. She was the heart of our family and will be dearly missed. A service celebrating her life will be held at 2:00PM on Thursday, May 14th at St. Peter’s Anglican Cathedral, Tallahassee, Florida. Burial will be held at 11:00AM Saturday, June 6th at Friendship Cemetery in Donalsonville, Georgia. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in her name to Big Bend Hospice or St. Peter’s Anglican Cathedral. We are grateful for the support of Big Bend Hospice and her amazing caregivers, Tia, Cam and Nina.
