Collean Glynn Hickox Stokes, 92 years young, was born February 12, 1933, in Jacksonville, Florida and entered her eternal heavenly home on May 11, 2025, Mother’s Day, surrounded by her children and family. She was a devoted Christian whose life radiated her unwavering faith in our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. She was a charter member of the Arlington Road Baptist Church in Jacksonville, Florida, raised her children in the First Baptist Church, Baldwin, Florida and attended Immanuel Baptist Church in Tallahassee, Florida for over 45 years. She loved to sing and was a member of the choir in every church she was with. Her angelic voice was sought after for numerous weddings and funerals. She was a faithful servant who taught Sunday School and was always reaching out and visiting those who were not able to attend a service. She graduated from Landon High School in Jacksonville, Florida and was part of the Lionette Drill Team. She was part-owner and managed the legendary Stokes Drive-In restaurant in Baldwin Florida for many years. This was “THE” hangout in Baldwin during the late sixties and early seventies. She loved her Faith Radio Station (WFRF) in Tallahassee. She volunteered on membership mailing days and traveled with them to Kenya and Uganda Africa to witness locally and all of them loved to call her Mama. She also traveled twice with Immanuel Baptist on mission trips to Guatemala. She also spent many days at Early’s Kitchen where her culinary skills were tested. We were always told Mr. Eddy used many of her recipes for the breakfast and lunch menu. She was preceded in death by her husband, Herman O. Stokes Jr, her mother Lois Highsmith Smith, her father William Mose Hickox, her eldest son Mark Alan Stokes and two brothers, Francis Smith Jr and James Jerry Smith. And her best friend of 80 years, Pearl Williams. She is survived by her daughter Cynthia Gail (Steve) Kegley, son Jeffery Scott (Marilou / “Bubut”) Stokes, son Daniel Herman Stokes, daughter Bridget Collean (Bruce) Kittrell and brother William Truman (Loretta) Hickox; eight (8) grandchildren: Steve (Callie) Kegley Jr, Camerata Matchett, Jordan (Christie) Stokes, Jared (Bethany) Stokes, Seth Kegley, Somer (Brent) Pell, Mallory (Matt) McGinnis, and Jackson (Amanda) Kittrell; twenty (20) great-grandchildren: Paige Collean Kegley, Ethan Strickland, Caleb Kegley, Bryson Kegley, John Pell, William Pell, Shane Kegley, Evan Strickland, Diana Matchett, Aubrey Kegley, Annalyn Kegley, Ella Stokes, Teagan McGinnis, Ryan Kegley, Barrett Stokes, Silas Kegley, Slade McGinnis, Wyatt Stokes, Brenner Stokes and Brandt Stokes. The family will be receiving guests for a visitation at Immanuel Baptist Church of Tallahassee on Thursday, May 15, 2025 at 10:00am with a celebration of her life to immediately follow at 11:00am. The family will be receiving guests for a visitation again at Boones Creek Cemetery of Saint George, Georgia on Friday, May 16, 2025 at 12:00pm with a graveside service to follow at 1:00pm.
