Evelyn Shaw

A beacon of light, Evelyn Shaw, beloved wife of Keith Shaw for 53 years, went to her heavenly home with Jesus on June 15, 2024, in Tallahassee, Florida where she has been a cherished member of the community for over 50 years. Born in Cairo, Georgia, Evelyn was a graduate of Cairo High School. She was preceded in death by her parents, Roy Cassels and Lena Edmonds Cassels, as well as siblings, Ralph and Agnes, and daughter, Susan. Evelyn’s legacy lives on through her dear husband, Keith Shaw and daughters, Sandy (Larry) McCorkle, Bobbye (Mike) Iseminger, and Sharon (Emmett) Bell, as well as her cherished seven grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. Known for her servant’s heart and generosity, if you wanted to find Evelyn, you didn’t have to look any further than the preschool wing of her church. Over a lifetime of Sundays, she rocked generations of babies and shared countless Bible stories with young children, leaving a legacy of Jesus’s love for all to witness. As a gardener, Evelyn’s home and porch were filled with plants and flowers of every variety, a beautiful symbol of the love she grew in others. She lived life to its fullest, enjoying water sports and watching the world go by from the dock of her lake house. If her beloved Florida State Seminoles were on TV, she wasn’t too far away, cheering them to victory. Few in this world are as genuine and loving as Evelyn. With an easy smile and gentle spirit, she had a way of making you feel fully known and unconditionally loved. Her family and those who knew her will cherish her lessons in kindness and deeply miss her warm embraces. Though the loss of her presence is intensely felt, her family does not mourn without hope, knowing they will one day meet her again in heaven with Jesus. A celebration of Evelyn’s life will be held at her cherished home church. The service will begin at 3:00 pm, June 22, 2024, at Seminole Baptist Church on 3330 Mission Road in Tallahassee. Visitation with the family will begin at 2:00 and continue until the time of the service. A private family service and interment will take place at the Tallahassee National Cemetery on Monday, June 24th at 2:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Seminole Baptist Church Preschool Department.
