George "Richard" Williamson Jr.

George “Richard” Williamson Jr peacefully passed away on Sunday, April 19, 2026, at the age of 75. Richard was born November 9, 1950, in Marianna, Florida to George and Lula Mae Williamson. He was married to Lura Shaffer Williamson. Richard grew up in Blountstown, FL. He loved the small-town atmosphere where childhood friends roamed the neighborhoods and parents treated all the kids as their own. Richard was active in boy scouts where he achieved the rank of Eagle Scout. The values he learned carried throughout his life. He and some of his buddies formed a band they called “The Mustangs”. Richard continued his love of the music of the 50’s – 70’s even though he didn’t play the guitar into his adulthood. He graduated from Florida State University with a BS in business management. After graduating he went to work as personnel director for Rysco Shipyard. During this time, he was on the board of the W.T. Neal Civic center and active in the Jaycees. Later he was personnel director for Homes and Land Magazine and The Printing House. Richard also served as human resources director and general manager for Seminole Trusses. Richard was a member of the Tallahassee Moose Lodge where he was an officer and an administrator for many years. During retirement Richard enjoyed tinkering around the house and yard – using skills he picked up from his father who enjoyed doing almost anything around the house. He loved watching FSU Seminoles football and basketball – go Noles! Richard is survived by his loving wife Lura and daughter Melissa Edwards (John) of Panama City, sisters Dorothy and Carolyn Williamson of Tallahassee, grandchildren Ricky Miller, Michael and Carissa McRae and numerous cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents and long-time companion and love Donna Gandy. The family wants to extend heartfelt thanks to Big Bend Hospice and the staff at St Augustine Plantation who took care of Richard during his final days.
