Gertrude "Trudy" Cooksey

Mrs. Gertrude “Trudy” Manderfield Cooksey, 93, our precious Mother, joined her heavenly Father on October 1, 2013, at St. Augustine Plantation Assisted Living Community in Tallahassee, Fl. She was born in Freda, Michigan on February 22, 1920, daughter of the late Harry and Emma Winter. She graduated from St. Joseph’s School of Nursing in Houghton, Michigan before marrying and eventually moved to Florida. Before retiring, Trudy was a pediatric nurse for 30 years, both in Daytona Beach and Tallahassee, Fl. Trudy is preceded in death by her loving husband, Douglas L. Cooksey, her first husband, E.J. Manderfield, her brother, Henry Winter, and her beloved son-in-law, Michael (Mickey) Williams. Our Mother was a wonderful Christian role model to her family and to all who knew her. She was a long time member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church. Her greatest joy in life was being with her family and friends and making sure they were happy and well. We will always remember her loving, caring, generous, and humorous ways. She was known for her cross stitching, her homemade quilts, and her homemade grape jelly which were welcome gifts every Christmas. She worked her daily cross word puzzles and always had a book handy until at least age 90. Those left to cherish her memory and life are her five children Joan Williams, Pat Manderfield (June), Murdayne Nichols (Ernie), Michael J. Manderfield (Debbie) and Susan Shopmyer (Alan), and their 11 grandchildren and their 8 great-grandchildren. Our Mother loved and respected Doug’s children and their families as her own. They are Pat (Jerry) Patterson, Susan Dodson (Wally), Doug Jr. (Barbie), and Judy Owens (Steve), and their 8 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. Trudy will be greatly missed. There will be a private burial for family members. A Celebratory mass will be given at Blessed Sacrament Church (624 Miccosukee Rd Tallahassee, FL 32308) on Monday, October 7 at 11 o’clock in the morning. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Big Bend Hospice at 1723 Mahan Center Drive, Tallahassee, FL 32308. Bevis Funeral Home (850/385-2193, www.bevisfh.com) is assisting the family with their arrangements.
