Hansel Seth Scarborough

Hansel Scarborough was 83 years of age when he passed away August 11, 2016 at TMH following an extended illness. He was born in Tallahassee on December 5, 1932. Hansel was one of five graduates from Florida Demonstration School at FSU (Florida High) in 1952. He went on to complete Drafting studies at Lively Vo-Tech School, after which he worked for State Road Department in traffic and planning for nine years. He went into the building industry working at Discount Lumber Co. where he managed the Truss Department until he became a residential general contractor. After retiring, he and his wife moved to Lake Talquin in Gadsden County. Due to his failing health, they moved back to Tallahassee 15 years later. Hansel’s wit was legendary both within his family and among his friends, caregivers, and working associates. His knowledge of people, places, and events in the Tallahassee area was told and retold not only with accuracy, but the stories came to life peppered with humor and his understanding of human nature. Never at a loss for words, his passing occurred during the middle of a joke he was telling to the nurse. We all miss our loved ones, but Hansel’s personality, intellect, and humor was so unique that he will be quoted over and over again by those who knew him. The family would like to thank staff and nurses at Tallahassee Memorial Hospital for their special care and understanding over the years. He is survived by his wife, partner, and best friend Vivian Blakey Scarborough and they would have celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary on November 17 of this year. One son, Glenn Earl Scarborough (Diane) of Tallahassee, and one daughter Joni Marie Scarborough Fitzgerald (Terry) of Alpharetta, Ga. One grandson Kevin Glenn Fitzgerald of Seattle, Wa. Two step grandchildren Dawn Widener (PJ) of Blountstown, Fl., and Thomas Plotke (Patricia) of Tallahassee. He also has nine step great grandchildren and three great-great granddaughters, and a brother-in-law Henry Glover (Bobbie). He was predeceased by his parents, Amos and Gladys Scarborough. A son, Lee Charles Scarborough and a sister, Naomi Scarborough Glover. The family will receive friends Friday, August 12, 2016 from 5:00 until 7:00 PM, at Bevis Funeral Home. The funeral service will be held Saturday, August 13, 2016 at 11:00 AM, at Bevis Funeral Home Chapel, interment will follow at MeadowWood Cemetery.
