James Andrew Chorey

James Andrew Chorey of Tallahassee, Florida passed away on September 19, 2023, after a hard fought battle with cancer. Jim was born on October 25, 1948, in Zanesville, Ohio to the late Andy and Joan (Galloway) Chorey. He is survived by his wife and high school sweetheart Patricia (Flanagan) Chorey, daughter Lori (Chris) and son Eric (Stephanie), all of Tallahassee. He was a beloved “Pap” to his four grandchildren, Lauren (23), James (21), Matthew (19) and Eric (17). In addition, he leaves behind his siblings, Tom (Sharon), Beth Valentine (Jim), Brent (Sue) along with their families and sister-in-law Susan (Larry) Yoho and their families. Jim was a graduate of Meadowbrook High School, Byesville, Ohio and attended Ohio University, Athens, Ohio. A proud civil servant, Jim retired from the U.S. Postal Service in 2005 after serving in a variety of roles ranging from postal carrier, postal inspector and postmaster. In 2011, Jim and Pat moved to Tallahassee which afforded him the opportunity to play his beloved game of golf year-round. Jim also loved to ride his Harley, enjoyed trap and skeet shooting and was an enthusiastic outdoorsman in his younger days. A man of deep faith, Jim was a member of First Baptist Church, Tallahassee and over the years served his church in a variety of capacities including deacon, teacher, and member of the choir and praise team. Jim will be remembered for his love of his family, all of whom were a source of pride and happiness to him. In the end, he carried himself with dignity and strength; surrounded by the full love of his adoring family. A memorial service will be held at First Baptist Church, Tallahassee on Monday, October 2nd at 10:00am to celebrate the life of this much loved husband, father, grandfather and friend.
