Jane Marie Sweeney

Jane Marie Sweeney passed away on November 29, 2025 at the age of 66. Jane was born on September 14, 1959, in Lacrosse, Wisconsin to Robert and Helen (Sherpe) Sherman. She attended Hillsboro, Wisconsin elementary and high schools before leaving home to obtain training to become a medical secretary. Upon receiving her credentials, she began working for the Mayo Clinic. Jane had a lifelong career with Mayo Clinic starting in Rochester, Minnesota and eventually transferring for the opening of its Scottsdale, Arizona branch. Jane had a work hard, play hard philosophy. She was dedicated to accuracy at her job, talking about the human experience of the patients associated with the dictation reports that she produced. She was enthusiastic about her leisure time. She enjoyed music (concert goer), her friends, and experiences (candy making, puzzles, cards, camping, golfing, biking, bowling, tubing, and exploring the country’s parks and other gems). Jane was an advocate for blood donation and dog adoption and rescue. Over the years Jane and her husband Timothy John Sweeney rescued and adopted several dogs. She participated in dog therapy training. She was able to share that comforting experience with Veterans at the Phoenix VA hospital. In her retirement she enjoyed her circle of friends in Scottsdale, AZ, completing crossword puzzles and watching the wildlife in her yard. After her move to Tallahassee, Florida, Jane enjoyed time with her nephew Bradley and his wife Toni. Jane loved her family and friends. She was especially close to her brother, Robert Sherman, Jr. He always took her with him in the car to various places as a young child. She was also close to her sister Bonnie R. Degner (Sherman), who she vacationed with in her teens and young adulthood. Jane was also close to her niece, Jennifer Degner and her nephews Bradley, Brent and Brandon Sherman and Tim Degner. The Sherman and Degner families are extremely grateful for the friendship, kindness, love and support provided by Tom and Pam Colby of Scottsdale, AZ and Rowena Mock of Scottsdale, AZ. Jane is survived by her brother Robert Sherman, Jr. (Helen), nephews Brent Sherman (Trisha) of Mt. Juliet, TN, Brandon Sherman (Tracy) of Winfield, WV, Tim Degner (Julie) of Wichita, KS., niece Jennifer Degner of Overland Park , KS , great nieces Kelsey of Winfield, WV, Riley and Casey of Mt. Juliet, TN, Cooper Degner of Wichita, KS and great nephew Cody Degner of Wichita, KS, Toni Sherman (nephew’s wife) of Tallahassee, FL, Dennis Degner (brother-in-law) of Overland Park, KS, and her lifelong friend Dorothy Mueller of Oregon, WI. Jane was preceded in death by her husband Timothy John Sweeney (February 23, 2019), her parents Robert Sherman and Helen Sherman (Sherpe) of Hillsboro, WI, her sister Bonnie Degner (Sherman) (March 9, 2019) and her nephew Bradley Sherman (March 17, 2025). Her body will be cremated and joined with Tim’s cremains for interment in the Mount Vernon Cemetery, Hillsboro, Wisconsin.
