Janet Lee Wilson

The lights over Tallahassee dimmed on Sunday, December 15, 2019 when Janet Lee Wilson, age 75 closed her eyes one last time. Her impact on the world made it a better place. Janet Lee Shelton grew up on her family’s farm in Portsmouth, Ohio and was born on July 1, 1944. She later moved to Dayton, Ohio where she met and married her husband Jimmy Wilson. After starting their life in Dayton, they decided to move to the warm waters of Miami, Florida. Janet and Jimmy Wilson spent many happy years living lakeside in Miami where they raised their only child, Michelle Lee Wilson. Janet was passionate about community involvement and supporting local charities and served as a Legal Secretary for a successful Miami law firm for almost 20 years. In addition to her career with the law firm, Janet obtained her Brokers License and led a successful career in Real Estate. Janet’s effervescent personality, sharp wit and charisma drew people to her everywhere she went. Upon retirement, she moved to Tallahassee, FL to begin the next phase of her life. She moved in with her best friend and daughter, Michelle, and you rarely saw one without the other. Janet was a proud member of the Golden Eagle Ladies Club, the FSU Extra Point Club and the Tallahassee Newcomer’s Club. Janet and Michelle loved to make the most of their time together by traveling to new and exciting places all over the world. Some of Janet’s favorite places to visit included Maui, Aruba, the US Virgin Islands, New York City, Seaside, Savannah, Kennebunkport, Maine, Vermont, Pennsylvania, Miami and countless other locations. Precious and Duker, the four-legged canine members of the Wilson Family, particularly loved road trips because they would always get to go. Family time meant more than anything to Janet Lee Wilson. In addition to traveling, Janet had a passion for cooking and collecting cookbooks representing each of the cities she visited during her extensive travels. She would often incorporate delicious new recipes into her fabulous dishes and looked forward to sharing them with family and friends. Janet treasured being a fur mom to her dogs, Precious and Butterball and a Grandmother to Duker and was heartbroken when Precious passed away in September. Janet is survived by her daughter Michelle Lee Wilson as well as her dogs, Duker and Butterball. A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, December 21, 2019 from 3:00-6:00 p.m. at the FSU, University Center Club, Champions Club West, 4th Floor (288 Champions Way).
