Jo Ann Justine Brierton

It is with great sadness that the family of Jo Ann Justine Brierton, of Tallahassee, FL announce her passing on June 8, 2021, at the age of 83. She was born in Chicago, Illinois on March 8, 1938 to Juan de la Paz and Joanna Korbal de la Paz. Jo Ann graduated with a bachelor’s degree from Mundelein College and a master’s degree from Northern Illinois University. On January 11, 1958, she married the love of her life David Hugh Brierton. A life-long educator of 42 years, Jo Ann made a difference in the lives of many children in Illinois and Florida, retiring as a language arts teacher at Cobb Middle School in Tallahassee, FL. She was a true believer of giving back to the community and served the community in a variety of ways, including the Florida Highway Patrol Auxiliary and volunteering at the VA Hospital. She was a devoted member of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church in Wakulla, FL for many years and most recently joined Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church after moving to Tallahassee. Jo Ann was strong in her faith and was a child of God who honored Him throughout her life. She enjoyed meeting and talking to people, a friend to all, Jo Ann never met a stranger. She was dedicated to making everyone she met feel welcomed and loved. As the matriarch of her family, Jo Ann was devoted to her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was proceeded in death by her husband, David, and her children, James and Nadine. She is survived by: Children: David (Deborah) Brierton, Jr.; Son-in-Law Carlton Faulk Grandchildren: Kristen (Andy) Adams, Katharina (Jimmy) Lane, Josh (Sherrill) Escude, Jason (Monique) Brierton, Joey (Jeanna) Norman III, David Brierton III, Daniel (Alexandra) Brierton, Joseph Brierton, Jenny Brierton, Jo Ann Brierton and Amber (Benji) Faulk Great-Grandchildren: Kadence, Braden, Jacob, Jillian, David IV, Zoey, Autumn, Joey IV, Chloe and Legend. A memorial service will be held at 11:30 a.m. on June 26, 2021, at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions in memory of Jo Ann can be made to the American Heart Assoc.
