John Calvin Broadnax Sr

Early on October 14, 2014 John Calvin Broadnax, Sr. a big man with a big heart, passed into eternity from Tallahassee, Florida where he had hoped to establish the next chapter in his life at HarborChase. John was born on March 20, 1930 to the late John Edward and Vera H. Broadnax in Taylors, South Carolina where he graduated from the local high school. John then attended Brevard Junior College in Brevard, NC and graduated from Presbyterian College in Newberry, SC with a degree in chemistry. He worked for Polymer Southern, in Taylors, SC for 25 years, working his way up to plant manager. Following that success he went on to work for ABCO, Spartanburg, SC and then Thermal Oxidation, Roebuck, SC. In 1951 he married Adeline Boling, and together they had three children, all of whom survive their parents: a daughter, Janet Black (JB) of Tallahassee, Florida and two sons John Calvin Jr. of Easley, South Carolina and David Alan of Taylors, South Carolina. John and Adeline retired to Holden Beach, North Carolina where he spent time fishing, golfing, gathering shells, building sand castles with their grandchildren and enjoying living at the coast. John and Adeline were volunteers for the Turtle Watch program early in their retirement and were always active in the Holden Beach Chapel where they accumulated many friends. John particularly loved fishing of all types including: the flats, from piers, the shore and offshore. John also made several trips to Costa Rica where he enjoyed catch and release fishing for sailfish and marlin. John was preceded in death by his wife, Adeline, his parents, and his sister, Bonnie Phillips. John will be missed by his grandchildren with whom he spent many a day boating and fishing. His grandchildren are: Alan Broadnax, Jared Black, Travis Black, Anna Morton and Joshua Broadnax. A memorial service will be conducted at the Holden Beach Chapel at 2:00 PM, on Saturday November 1, 2014. A private family service will be held at a later date at Woodlawn Memorial Park in Greenville, SC.
