John Wilbur "Jack" Chapman, Jr.

John Wilbur “Jack” Chapman, Jr., age 89 of Tallahassee, passed away November 30, 2023, at his residence. The family will receive friends from 10:00AM until 11:00AM on Monday, December 4, 2023, at Bevis Funeral Home, 200 John Knox Road, with the funeral service following at 11:00AM. The interment will be at 1:00PM at the Tallahassee National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Shriners Children’s Hospital (https://www.shrinerschildrens.org/en )or the Lighthouse Children’s Home (https://www.lighthousechildrenshome.com/ ). Jack was born November 12, 1934, to Rosa Carolyn Johnson and John Wilbur Chapman, Sr. He was a lifelong resident of Tallahassee and graduate of Leon High School, where he played football. He also was a graduate of Florida State University where he earned a bachelor’s degree in business marketing. Jack served in the United States Navy from 1954-1956 and then the Navy Reserves. He was the owner of Chapman Produce Company until his retirement. Jack was a member of Tallahassee Heights Methodist Church where he served on the Administrative Board and also attended Morningside Church. He was an active member in the community and was a member of NE Business Association (NEBA); Capital City Republican Club; Capital Conservatives; Capital Tiger Bay Club; Committee of 99; and Springtime Tallahassee where he was past Antebellum Krewe Chief, member of War and Reconstruction and in 2005, Andrew Jackson #33. He was Past President of The Town Club; Assistant Scout Master of John Wesley Troop 110; 33rd Degree Mason, Shriner of Marzuq Shrine Temple and Hillbillies; and member of the Shrine Club Motorcycle Parade Unit. He enjoyed attending FSU basketball games. Survivors include four children, Cathy (Dan) Bruijn; Keith (Sonya) Chapman; Kevin Chapman and Monte (Sandra) Chapman; grandchildren, Carter (Megan) Chapman, Cody (Ashley) Chapman, Shelby Chapman, twins, Josh Bruijn and Jennifer (Jakob) Bruijn Wisdom; Mary Beth Murphy (Taylor), Carson Chapman, Katie Chapmen and Avery Chapman; great-grandsons, Grayson Wisdom, Colton Wisdom and Parker Chapman; great-granddaughter, Peyton Chapman and brothers-in-law, Larry Manning and A.D. Landrum. He was predeceased by his wife of 64 years, Cora Ann Chapman, and siblings Jane Latina (Al), Carol Landrum, and Wm. Thomas Chapman.
