Kenyon Dwayne Hackney

Kenyon Dwayne Hackney, 88, of Tallahassee, Florida, died Friday, December 23, 2011, of natural causes. A native of Morehead, Kentucky, who resided half of his life in Arlington, Virginia, Mr. Hackney moved to Tallahassee, in 2004. He was an active and steadfast member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, Tallahassee 3rd Ward. He was a WWII Army veteran, assigned to the 344th Ordnance Depot Company, and received five Bronze Stars during his service. Mr. Hackney had a decades-long career as a salesman, and was also, for a time, a restauranteur. Mr. Hackney was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather to: his wife of 68 years, Billie Mae Cottingham Hackney (deceased), his children, Larry Gordon Hackney (Melanie) of Norwalk, CT, Brenda Joyce Straiton of Arlington, VA, Karma Jane Hackney of Rancho Cordova, CA, Rebecca Ann Hackney of Bristow, VA, and Deborah Jean Hackney Rodriguez (Isaias), of Tallahassee, FL; his grandchildren, Lesli Gwen Hackney Allen, Heidi Lea Hackney Castaneda, Jennifer Nichole Straiton and Daniel Isaias Rodriguez (Joanna); and great-grandchildren, Shawn Tyler Allen, Hannah Lea Castaneda and Ava Mae Rodriguez. Mr. Hackney was preceded in death by his wife, Billie Mae; his parents, Jacob Fenlin and Mary Susie Hayes Hackney; three sisters and four brothers, Lillian Maude Hackney Dixon, Lilburn Paul Hackney, Anthony Brooks Hackney, Mabel Patra Hackney Dixon, Roger Graydon Hackney, Wilbur Gordon Hackney and Wilma Glenna Hackney Leavitt. The funeral service will be held on Wednesday, December 28, 2011, at 11:00 AM, EST, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, 3717 Thomasville Road, Tallahassee, FL. Internment will follow at MeadowWood Memorial Park in Tallahassee. The family will receive friends Tuesday, December 27, 2011, from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints at 3717 Thomasville Road, Tallahassee, FL.
