Laura Belle Guillory Debose

Laura Belle Guillory Debose, 86, of Tallahassee, Florida, passed away peacefully on July 24, 2026, surrounded by loved ones, at Seven Hills Health and Rehabilitation Center in Tallahassee, Florida, where she had been receiving hospice care through Big Bend Hospice. Born June 11, 1940, in Church Point, Louisiana, Laura was the daughter, and 4th child of 11, of the late Chester L. Guillory Sr. and Bertha Guillory. Laura earned her Associate's degree and built a career in nursing, dedicating many years of service to patients at Providence Holy Cross Medical Center (formerly Holy Cross Medical Center) in Mission Hills, California. Where she worked every department they offered. She was always requested by name from the supervisors to work their departments. On March 2, 1957, Laura married Norah Joseph Peet in Lake Charles, Louisiana. Together they welcomed three children: Shiela Peet, Jacqueline Ann Peet, and Norah Joseph "N.J." Peet Jr. Laura was known for her “spicy” personality. She would regularly become the life of the party, and brought joy to anyone and everyone she met. Known to her grandchildren as Granny. Granny moved to Merced Ca, then to Lake View Terrace Ca. There she joined First United Methodist Church of Pacoima. Laura served on multiple boards at the Church, and was greatly loved and appreciated by all the congregation. Laura later retired to Tallahassee Florida, where she joined, Tallahassee Heights Methodist Church. Granny provided a loving home for her children to grow up in as well as her grandchildren also. Laura was a foster mother to over 13 children. She was always making sure that no one went hungry at all, and frequently was seen in the kitchen making gumbo, or chicken and okra, some of her favorite dishes. Laura traveled the world, visiting multiple countries, either with Jr. and Shevon, or the church. She absolutely loved to travel. She was a devout Christian and loved to read and study her Bible with her son. She took care of everyone she encountered, whether while nursing or at home. Way into her 80's she was still considered “Mother Laura” to those who crossed her path. She showed the love she had through care. Laura was preceded in death by her parents, Chester L. Guillory Sr. and Bertha Guillory; her children, Shiela Peet (1956), Jacqueline Ann Peet (2014), and Norah Joseph "N.J." Peet Jr. (2025); her siblings, Serita Guillory Lubin, Alvin Guillory, Earline Guillory, Cecilia Guillory, Willory "Willie" Guillory, Rapheal Guillory, and Mary Guillory and her eldest grandchild, Eukeema Jones. She is survived by her brother, Chester Guillory Jr., of Champaign, Illinois; her sister, Gertrude Guillory Monson, of Houston, Texas; and her brother, Richard Guillory, of Beaumont, Texas. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Tiffany Brown and husband Jarvis Brown, of Lake View Terrace California, Marcus Peet and wife Rochelle Peet of Cumming, Georgia, and Lori Peet of Crestview, Florida. She is further survived by her great-grandchildren, Adryan (Deute) Newchurch, Cymphany Brown, Josaiah Wilkins, Maurice Peet, and Nicole Peet. Also a host of Nieces And Nephews. Laura's wishes were to return as she came. Genesis 3:19. Visitation will be held at 1:00 p.m., with a funeral service to follow at 2:00 p.m., on Saturday, August 8, 2026, at Bevis Funeral Home in Tallahassee, Florida.
