Mary Cline Whitmire

Mary Cline Whitmire, 81, of Tallahassee, FL, passed away on Tuesday, January 21, 2025. Born on August 28, 1943, in Hickory, NC, she was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, and friend to many. Mary dedicated over 40 years to public service in the state of Florida, spending her final years at the Florida Department of Health’s Division of Children’s Medical Services. She was passionate about her work and made a lasting impact on the lives of countless families. Mary attended Leon High School and Florida State University graduating with a Master Degree. As a lifelong Florida State Seminoles fan, Mary could always be found cheering on her team. She had a love for reading, golf, art, animals, gardening and music, and she found great joy in giving back to her community. She was deeply committed to volunteerism, serving at Hospice, Vacation Bible School, and the food pantry, as well as participating in the gardening club and greeting parishioners at her beloved Holy Comforter Episcopal Church. Her generosity extended to numerous animal welfare organizations, ensuring that her love for animals lived on through her support. Mary was preceded in death by her father, John Cline (wife Mildred Cline) and mother Catherine Hermaleen Cline; her husband, Richard Whitmire; her brother, Eric Cline; and her grandson, Logan Kendrick. She is survived by her sister, Jayne Roddenberry (husband Mike Roddenberry), her children, Odis Kendrick IV and Catherine Castaldo (husband Scott); her nieces, Kari Edwards and Amy Rubes; and her cherished grandchildren, Noah Castaldo, Caitlyn Castaldo, and Maxim Kendrick. Those who knew Mary knew exactly where they stood with her—her tough exterior was matched by a deeply compassionate heart. She had an unwavering dedication to helping others, always finding ways to lift up those in need. A service to celebrate Mary’s life will be held at 2:00 p.m. EST on Saturday, February 15, 2025, at Holy Comforter Episcopal Church (2015 Fleischmann Road, Tallahassee, FL). In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made in her honor to Holy Comforter Church. Mary’s strength, kindness, and unwavering generosity will be dearly missed but forever remembered in the hearts of those she touched.
