Peggy Joyce Hammons

Peggy Joyce Hammons, 82 of Tallahassee, passed away peacefully on Saturday, April 25, 2026, surrounded by her whole family. Peggy was born on November 3, 1943, to J.C. and Eloise Harvey. She attended Crawfordville School where she was a cheerleader, homecoming queen, honor student and a senior favorite. Peggy graduated in 1961 and began working at Lewis State Bank in Tallahassee. While working at the bank, she met Doug Hammons who was home on leave from the U.S. Marine Corps. They dated for two years, fell in love and married in 1963. Shortly thereafter, they started their family and raised three beautiful daughters. Brenda Mueller (Joe), Susan Barrineau (Stacy), and Cindy Hammons, all who reside in Tallahassee. Peggy has four grandchildren, Lauren Wilson (Dustin), Colin Barrineau (Liliana), Cameron King (Abigail), and Cierra King (Lucky); three great grandchildren, Grayson Wilson, Silas King, and one on the way Clay Barrineau. She is also survived by her brother Paul Harvey (Denise) of Crawfordville. Peggy was an active member of Crawfordville First Baptist Church for many years until moving to Tallahassee. She loved her family and stayed very involved in their lives. She enjoyed gardening, baking, the beach, volunteer work and listening to Elvis Presley. Later in life, one of her favorite pastimes was sitting on the porch watching her backyard birds and squirrels. She was a charter member of the Capital City Optimist Club, and member of the Red Hat Society, Tallahassee Junior Women’s Club and a recipient of the Tallahassee Sunrise Rotary Club Award. Peggy’s joy came from being surrounded by her family. She adored her girls, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Many wonderful memories were made over the years. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Peggy’s name to Big Bend Hospice or St. Francis Wildlife Association, 5580 Salem Road, Quincy, Florida 32352. The family will receive friends from 3:00PM - 5:00PM on Saturday, May 16, 2026, at Bevis Funeral Home 200 John Knox Road, Tallahassee, Florida 32303.
