Phyllis Sykes Moore

Phyllis Sykes Moore passed away on December 22, 2021 surrounded by her children. She was born in Quincy, Florida on May 19, 1947 to William Thomas and Nancy Juanita Sykes of Hosford, Florida. She lived on Peddie Hill in Hosford until 1970, when she married Tyrone Moore and moved to Medart, Florida. She would spend the next thirty-five years raising her children and playing the piano and organ for her church. She volunteered for numerous school and church functions and planned many Vacation Bible Schools during the summers at Lake Ellen Baptist Church. She loved to paint. She loved to cook. She loved to take care of her home, rake her yard and burn piles of leaves. She loved to do for others and would give you anything she had if she thought you needed or wanted it. She was giving, to a fault. But more than anything, she loved her children and grandchildren and loved to take care of them. At the age of 50, she graduated with honors from Florida State University with a masters degree in Speech Language Pathology. Her first job as an SLP was with the Wakulla County School System. She loved that job and she loved all of the students that she worked with. In 2005, she started a new life and moved to Thomasville, Georgia, where she worked as a Speech Pathologist for Pelham City Schools until she retired in 2018. She is survived by her children and their families; Nancy Juanita Crocker, her husband Curtis and their children, Carter Grace and Cole Thomas. Justin Lee Moore, Benjamin Tyrone Moore, his daughter Mikenna Saige Wilson, his partner, Courtney Armitage and her children, Brianna and Bethany Peacock. Life wasn’t kind or fair to Phyllis for most of her life. She lost her father in a tragic accident at the age of three, she faced abuse, heartache and many trials and tribulations. But her faith in God and her firm foundation in God’s word are what sustained her until the very end. She never touched tobacco or alcohol and she was always faithful and kind. Her children would say she was next in line to Jesus. She loved the Lord with all her heart and she prayed for those she loved every day. It is with a grateful heart that we know she is resting in the arms of Jesus, free from pain and heartache, free from the prison of dementia and the devastating effects of Parkinson’s Disease. She lived a life of Godliness and honor and we know that when she stood before Jesus, she heard the words, “well done my good and faithful servant”.
