Richard "Rick" Alan Barber

Richard "Rick" Alan Barber, 73, passed away peacefully on June 26, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family. Born on January 25, 1953, in Columbus, Georgia, Rick lived a life devoted to his family and friends. He retired from the Florida Office of the Attorney General after 38 years of service, as well as many years of volunteer work at the baseball fields of Levy Park and Messer Park. He will be remembered for his generous heart, quiet strength, and the kindness he showed to everyone he met. His greatest joy was spending time with those he loved and creating memories that will be cherished for generations. Rick was preceded in death by his father, Cornelius Hansford Barber, and his mother, Helen Kelley Barber. He is survived by his beloved wife of 54 years, Janet Rice Barber, whose love and companionship were the foundation of their life together. Rick leaves behind his loving children: David Barber and his wife, Kim; Kim Sims and her husband, Mike; Mark Barber and his wife, Andrea. He is also survived by his brother, Ronnie Barber, and his wife, Robin. He was a proud grandfather to Jacob Barber and his wife, Christina; Kyleigh Barber; Madison Sims; Chase Sims; and Laila Barber. He is also survived by his great-grandson, Braydyn Barber. Rick also leaves behind his faithful Labrador companions, Reba and Duke, who brought him years of companionship and unconditional love. He is further survived by numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends who will forever cherish his memory. Rick’s legacy is one of love, loyalty, and devotion to his family. His gentle spirit, wisdom, and unwavering love will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew him. Though he will be deeply missed, the memories he created and the love he shared will remain a lasting source of comfort to those who were fortunate enough to know him. The Barber family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the compassionate caregivers who supported Rick throughout the past several years. They would especially like to thank Laramie, Stacy, and Megan of NHC, as well as Courtney, Brooke, and Damon of Big Bend Hospice, for their exceptional care, kindness, and support. The family will be receiving guests for a visitation at Bevis Funeral Home on Tuesday, June 30, 2026, from 2:00pm – 3:00pm with a memorial service to immediately follow.
