Robert Richard Jones

Robert R. Jones, 73, of Tallahassee, passed away Friday, June 29, 2012 at Tallahassee Memorial Hospital. He is survived by his wife, Linda Ball Jones of Tallahassee. The funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM, EDT, Tuesday, July 3 at Fellowship Baptist Church in Tallahassee, with burial following at Tallahassee Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends Monday, July 2, from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Bevis Funeral Home in Tallahassee. In lieu of flowers, gifts in memory of Mr. Jones may be made to Fellowship Baptist Church, 3705 North Monroe Street, Tallahassee, FL 32303; or the American Heart Association, 2851 Remington Green Circle, Tallahassee, FL 32308. Mr. Jones was a native of Elkins, West Virginia and moved to Tallahassee with his family in 1973. He was a graduate of Davis and Elkins College in West Virginia, and was a coach and math teacher at Smith Junior High School in Chillicothe, Ohio following graduation. He was a representative for Mead Paper Company in Dayton, Ohio for several years before beginning a career in the mortgage banking business. He was a Mortgage Banker in Lexington, Kentucky before moving to Tallahassee and joining Commonwealth Mortgage. Mr. Jones was also with Andrew Jackson Savings and Loan in Tallahassee, before retiring from Capital City Bank Group for health reasons. While active and able to do so, he was an avid Seminole fan of all sports, especially women’s softball. He and his wife traveled to many out of town events, contests and bowl games while able, and he was a loyal Seminole Booster. He was also a member of Fellowship Baptist Church in Tallahassee. Other survivors include his four children, Rick Jones (Cathleen Riccobono), Ryan Jones and Jeannie Beth Rivera, all of Tallahassee and Gregg Jones of Dallas, TX; an adopted son, Juan Laureano of Ft. Lauderdale; and his sister, Carol Erickson of Elkins, WVA. Also surviving are seven grandchildren, Travis Jones, Aleah Rivera, Chase Rivera, Brayden Jones, Mckenzie Jones, Fisher Dodson and Julian Dodson. Mr. Jones was preceded in death by his parents, Dewey and Hazel Phares Jones; and a granddaughter, Kayla Crimbley.
