Rudolf "Rudy" Overholser, [76], passed away peacefully on Good Friday, April 18, 2025 at Tallahassee Memorial Hospital. A beloved resident of both Tallahassee, Florida, and Sterling, Virginia, Rudy touched the lives of many with his kindness, humor, and dedication to his family and community. Born on March 19, 1949 on a U.S. Air Force Base in Munich, Germany, Rudy grew up with a passion for service in the community, a great love for his country because of his Dad's career service in the U.S. Air Force and passion for any kind of sport, but mainly football. Coming to know Jesus, as his Lord and Savior in his Senior year of High School, he chose to forgo his scholarship to The Citadel and instead pursued his passion for ministry and spreading the gospel. He built a career serving the body of Christ in various pastoral and counseling positions in several churches within Virginia and Florida throughout his 40+ year career. No matter where he was, he was always driven by the desire to lead others to the saving knowledge of Jesus Christ. He was deeply involved in leading many Bible Studies, counseled new couples for marriage, supported other leaders in church ministry and traveled to several other countries to share the love of Jesus. His goal was always to uplift those around him by sharing the truths of the Bible. After retiring from full-time ministry, he restarted a residential paint contracting business he first began as a young man, to help pay his way through college. Whether in church or on the jobsite, his leadership and desire to mentor and share about the truths of life, made a lasting impact on many. Rudy is survived by his 6 children, Matthew Overholser (Melody), Jamee Wright, Jonathan Overholser, Stephen Overholser (Emily), Selestine Overholser, Ruth Gray, and his 13 grandchildren. His siblings, David Overholser (Becky) of Eagle Lake, MN and Kathryn O. Phillips of Suffolk, VA. He was preceded in death by his Father, James Andrew Overholser and Mother, Helga (Helen) G. Brawley (Helen G. Overholser) His favorite moments were spent conversing and enjoying fellowship over a richly brewed cup of coffee, sharing a great meal, cheering on his favorite team or most anything, as long as it was with his kids, grandkids or host of cherished friends. His heart and warmth will be deeply missed by all who knew him. The family will be receiving guests for a visitation at Four Oaks Community Church (4500 W. Shannon Lakes Drive Tallahassee, FL 32309) on Saturday, May 17, 2025 at 2:00pm with a Celebration of Life Service to immediately follow at 3:00pm.
